The Ghost Post!

An extra post for Halloween…

I’ve been chatting with Nikki about things that go bump in the night. Nikki mentioned that one night, when she was younger after moving house, she heard footsteps in her bedroom, stepping toward and away from her, and somebody opening and closing the door. When she opened her eyes, there was nobody there, but the door was wide open… unusual for it was usually closed. She has the full tale on her blog, so I don’t want to repeat it in full here, but she reminded me of the times I, and my family, have had experiences with ‘those from the next dimension’.

Imagine, if you will, that an eerie green glow now surrounds these words, and a distant laughter can be heard somewhere in the background. Mwah ha ha… or something like that!

Firstly, I’ll write about Dot.

Dot is the name I have given to a visitor who calls into Aqua Mansion every now and then. She doesn’t pop in as often as she used to, and I think I know the reasons why.

One evening, I was sorting through some paperwork… de-cluttering if you like. The big light was on (that’s Northern English for the main light, not a lamp or anything similar!), which was really needed to see what was being thrown away. My ghostly friend, Dot, likes my electrical things. She’ll open my disc drive drawer on my computer in the middle of the night, for instance, or turn the TV onto a different channel occasionally. Little things… nothing of what you’d class as poltergeist activity or anything.

So, I was kneeling on the floor sorting through papers. The light was on, and the music system and TV were both off. The TV was on stand-by, but the music system was completely off.

Dot wanted to play, so she switched the music system on. I always say “Hello!” to her when she does this, just to be friendly and to let her know that I know she’s there. I usually then turn the music system off again and carry on doing what I’m doing. Dot doesn’t tend to speak back, although one morning she said “Hello!” to me when I wasn’t expecting it, and nearly fell through the floor with shock! Anyway, this evening I switched the music system off, knelt back down and picked up an old phone bill.

Dot switched the music system on again. It was set to the radio option, and no sound was coming through, just a faint crackle of the radio static… white noise I think it’s called, which, when you are writing about ghosts seems to be a little ominous. I placed the bill down, stood up, and turned the music system off again. I said something like “What are you like, Dot!”, but then got back down to my sorting.

Dot turned the music system on again. So I got up again and switched it off. As soon as I got down once more… yes, she switched it on again. I got up a few more times, but I couldn’t carry on doing that all night. I was still on the same piece of paper!

Eventually, I stood up, said “You’ll have to stop this, Dot, I’m a little busy this evening!” (not in a nasty way or anything like that… just to let her know!) and I unplugged the music system from the power supply.

I got back down to my paperwork, filed the bill… and Dot switched the music system on again. And turned the volume up to the highest setting. The plug was well away from the socket… there was no actual power going to the system yet it was on. And loud.

I shot up to my feet this time. I said “Sorry! Here, you can play with it!” and plugged it back in. I turned the volume down, and left things as they were. I sorted a few more papers and then moved on to something else. Dot never came back that night. I think she was telling me that she didn’t need power to do what she was doing, but in doing what she did, she had depleted her personal power.

I felt bad that I had stopped her fun, but I wasn’t to know. I wasn’t expecting her to do something like that! She has been back a few times since then, but not as often as she used to. I still say a cheery “Hi” to her when she calls though. And she still likes my electrics.

My parent’s house has a few strange visitors on occasions… wispy clouds that appear and disappear in the corner of the living room… a heavy door (also to the living room) opening on it’s own (that actually happened in the middle of the afternoon, an a still Summer’s day!)… a faceless figure with a long overcoat and no legs standing, leaning around a bedroom door… my Mum didn’t see this figure… my brother did and watched as she walked straight through him!… I saw a figure walk into the living room, thinking it was my Dad, but when I walked in no-one was there… and my Mum had to move to one side to allow a figure to pass her on their stairs, not once but twice – once on the way up and once again on the way down. All of this happened over time I must add… it wasn’t in the same night or week or anything!

And finally, one last eerie thing to write about. One Monday morning I was off work, on holiday. I was having a sneaky lie-in, and at 10am I could hear a bell ringing. No ordinary bell… it was a school hand bell, the old fashioned ding – aling – aling – aling sound.

Nothing really untoward about that is there? Apart from (and I could be wrong here) I don’t think schools use hand bells anymore – it’s been like centuries since I was in school. If they do, that’s all well and good… but there aren’t any schools that close to Aqua Mansion where I could hear the school bells ringing from, even on a very windy day. The odd thing, however, is Aqua Mansion is built on the site of an old school. Now that makes me think a little deeper. Especially so since I only found out about that little fact after I had heard the bell.

So, there we have it. A quick run-down of my ‘ghostly’ experiences. With ghosts, you either believe or don’t, I don’t think there can be an in-between state. Even though I’ve heard things, experienced things, seen figures in the corner of my eye, I haven’t actually ‘seen’ a ghost, yet I have to believe they exist… I’ve experienced just a little too much for things to be ‘just’ coincidence.

But then again, I do experience lots of coincidences on a regular basis as well…

Ghosts or not, I wanted to share these experiences. I have mentioned some in posts on my blog before, but couldn’t resist doing so tonight, with it being Halloween and all!

The eerie green glow now lifts… and the odd background laughter becomes a distant memory. Or does it?

Mwah ha ha ha ha ha…!

Happy Halloween!

Wonderful Halloween post! I loved meeting Dot. Poor thing . . . you wore her out by unplugging the cord and making her power the stereo on her own power.

I’ve experienced nothing as “persuasive” as this, Tom . . . but I believe in ghosts (and other spirits) just the same. There is more to “this” than meets the eye.

BTW: My favorite ghosts aren’t Halloween visitors . . . they’re the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Thanks, Nancy. I actually enjoy Dot’s visits, even though she takes me by surprise most of the time! Yes, there definitely is more to this.
I like those Christmas Carol ghosts too… actually, I like any ghost for that matter…

I love Dot. She must be a happy ghost, if she just wants to listen to music. 🙂 Happy Halloween, Tom.

Great post Aquatom 🙂 Dot is a supernaturally strange character but she certainly lets her presence be known! Spooky though! Btw…”big light”…haven’t heard that term for years! Good ole northern saying and reminds me I haven’t been home for 2 years now. Not my choice I might add. But brings back some great memories! 😀

Glad I ‘switched on’ a great memory or so, Icewolf! It’s not actually a term I use very often!
Dot’s good as supernaturally strange characters go… although she is the only one I’ve ever actually ‘met’!

Ah, read about this in your comments on Kate Shrewsday’s site. You seem to have come to terms with Dot. I might find it a little eerie…

It’s strange when it first occurs, but you get used to it!
I’ve never felt ‘threatened’ or any kind of negativity from Dot, even when she switched on the music system without power… all things considered, I suppose that’s a good thing!

A very interesting story Tom and I believe you my great friend,
there are some things that just cannot be explained but it is best
to try and live alongside the glimpses and happenings, I mean
it is either a parallel world or perhaps a synchronisation between
the past, present and maybe even the future, who knows? 🙂

Ghosts or glimpses there are definitely
times when the unexplained is quite baffling…

    I hope that your Halloween
was an excellent one Tom 🙂

As I hope yours was too, Andro!
And yes, a very strange series of events. As you say, it could have been an overlap from another time or different dimension… it’s easy to group things like this as ghostly activity, which is exactly what I have done, but I find that an easier way to understand, or more to the point, to label what I’ve seen. Never has anything felt sinister, which is a good thing, but really all of the events are still classed as the ‘unknown’!
Thanks for offering your thoughts on this one, Andro!

Hi Tom, loved your eerie tale and not surprised at all at your revelations of things that go bump in the night…
Those in the world of spirit often use the waves of energy upon our electronic systems such as making lights blink and switching up volumes ect and Yes even make equipment work when not plugged in…
Im pleased you acknowledged her Tom and Yes it takes alot of their energies to merge within our own dense vibrations here…
Having had several of my own experiences both in my own home and within seance settings there is nothing spooky about those in the world of spirit, only our own lack of knowledge as to how the mechanics work…
Sounds as if your own inner sight is transcending the dimensions which for those interested are becoming thinner as our awareness and perceptions within our consciousness open our awareness to other worlds within our own world…

Sorry not to have been around much recently Tom, but I do enjoy reading your posts 🙂 and especially the ones about our Spirit Communicators

I trust you had a brilliant Halloween and wishing you well for the weekend,,,
    Take care

Hello Sue… nice to see you again, and please just visit when you can – no need to apologise – I certainly know how things can be with regards to catching up! 🙂

I couldn’t really not acknowledge her, Sue, especially after I had discounted a ‘cross wire’ connection with the TV remote control, I couldn’t think of any other physical explanation. When she said Hello and I knew she was female, I named her Dot, but I don’t know anything about her. She comes and goes as she pleases, and I don’t want to stop that… I quite like her visiting, actually!

I’m actually wondering now if she was a school teacher and it was her letting me hear the school bell that morning… don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. Hmmm…

I’d love for her to be able to communicate with me better and clearer, and maybe one day she will… I’ll have to wait and see!

Thanks for your thoughts here Sue!
Hope you have a good Thursday!

Could well be a connection to the building Tom and the Bell? well strange things happen, .. like the time I was driving along a country road, you know the narrow ones no white lines in the middle, to work… every morning the same route, you get a little lapse as in your early morning daze you put your foot down a little harder to the floor as I was running late for work in my Textile days…
This one day coming to a notorious bad bend in the road I was way ahead of the bend and A thought LOUD in my ear said SLOW down…. I didnt take much notice as I thought Well Im not going any faster than normal When another SLOW DOWN and I kid you not the Foot brake went to the floor as I skidded almost to a halt just before the bend…. Much to my jaw dropping amazement … As at the same time a youth in fast souped up car round the bend Myside of the road..
Had those in the world of spirit not pressed my foot peddle to the floor with the resounding Shout! of STOP!!!
I guess I wouldnt be here to tell the tale Tom… so those in the Spirit world come to help us alot and when we dont listen they Make us! STOP and Listen.. at least my own invisible helper did, of which I am eternally grateful

Wishing you a Great Thursday Tom and weekend to come…
        Sue x

    Hi Tom! 🙂

I’ve had too many experiences to just label them as coincidence and shared too many to just put it down to mental aberration! 🙂

I like the sound of Dot though – she must be fun to live with! 🙂

    God Bless!

Hi Prenin… yes I agree, not coincidence!
Dot makes me laugh when she visits… I imagine her going straight to the music system to switch it on to let me know she’s here! No warning or anything, and then I imagine her laughing as she sees me almost leap out of my skin. It’s always a surprise the first time she does it!

Wow I hardly know where to begin, i’m so amazed at all these occurances you’ve wrote about! And just as amazing is your ability to remain so calm about it all, especially with Dot. But that school hand bell…and the faceless figure in the overcoat…omg thats all way too spooky for me, well its all too spooky for me, I would have moved asap! A brave man you are, and very understanding and calm about these things, you would make a great paranormal investigater, we have a few tv shows here about that very thing here.

Ah… firstly, sorry for spooking you, Nikki.
I think the spirits react more when we react to them, so I try to stay calm when I experience anything. Well, I mean stay calm after I have settled down after almost jumping into orbit! They don’t tend to give any warning when they visit.
Do you know, I would love to be a paranormal investigator… or at least be part of a team.
Thanks, for commenting, Nikki, and I’ll try to stay clear of the spooky posts for a while. A short while anyway! 😉

Hi Tom, we are new to your site, by way of mutual blogger, Diane Henders. After spending some time on your blog, I have to say, we enjoyed your poems, especially “The Birth of the Phoenix.” Excellent flow and imagery. But my favorite by far, was “The Ghost Post.” For the past month, we’ve been reading fantastic tales of witches, horrifying accounts of zombies, and dark layers of gothic ghoul. Enough to lace the holiday with a plentiful helping of dark magic and keep faith to the ancient tradition of All Hallow’s Eve. And we’ve loved every one of them, as we tend to run a little dark.
But it was a nice treat to hear a true tale of supernatural splendor, with your main character, Dot, from your real-life ghost story. She’s great Tom! If I were you, I would do a little digging, and see what kind of history your house holds and who Dot really is. So much can go unknown, when we encounter these ghosts. Unable to communicate with them, they are sometimes desperate to speak to us and let us know their story.
I believe, not everyone CAN see ghosts. They are not intuitive or open enough to be susesptible to the other world. Clearly…you are! And it might be nice, if you knew what she wanted. She may want nothing more than to spend her energy around you and enjoy the interaction with a living soul who can actually see her. But then again, she may have something to say.
I’ve never been lucky enough to see anything, though I feel I’m sensative enough. Perhaps it’s the fact God doesn’t believe my heart could withstand a ghostly encounter, and the shock alone, could very well produce my own ghostly encounter, when I drop dead from the heart attack brought on by fear. LOL. Either way, I do enjoy reading books on the supernatural from time to time and hearing stories from our blogger/friends who have, been plagued by their own pesky visitors. Thx for the great posts, and we look forward to stopping by in the future and reading more of your work.
