I

I.

I was the first character I typed today.

It was also the second character, if you don’t count the full stop after the first I. And it was also the third, as I then typed the I for the title of the post before finishing the second sentence. Which could also actually be the first sentence if you didn’t count the first I as a sentence.

I don’t actually know why I typed I first.

I may have been meaning to write something for Sideview’s weekend theme this week, which is ‘Doing it Right’, but I didn’t. Do it right, that is, because as soon as I typed that first I, I had completely forgotten what I was going to write about.

I’m sure it would have been about something of meaning, something of great value and importance to the whole of the blog-reading world, and not the fact that I had used the letter I first today.

I have to wonder though, if we paid this much attention to everything we did, would we do what we were doing right first time? Would everything be perfect? Everything in harmony?

In all jonesty, I don’t think it would.

I don’t think anything would get done, as we’d all be so focussed on what we were doing, we’d miss something out, or overlook something of great importance, or run out of time… but then, would paying so much attention on what we are doing actually mean the end of our perception of time? Time would cease to exist and then we could take as long as we wanted on doing what we are doing right. So, does that mean time is what makes us do things wrong? Hmmm.

I did notice that typo back there as well, but if I went back to it, I’d have missed the paragraph before this one, so I carried on regardless. And then I had to keep the typo in otherwise this paragraph wouldn’t make sense.

Is it a coincidence that the letter involved in the typo is the next in the alphabet to the letter I? Or did I subconsciously type it correctly to prove that as I was so focussed on getting this post done right first time, I’d actually included the error deliberately?

I don’t know.

I think too deeply about things at times. And all this from the letter I.

If you hadn’t already noticed, this post is another response to Sideview’s weekend theme. Visit her site and join in the fun, if you so desire! The link’s somewhere above!

Jappy Saturday!

Oh wow Tom..I loved the post! The way you literally braided in such a great lesson on us missing the big picture…so to speak. I seriously think that sometimes we focus so much on the details o doing every thing right that we miss the joy in doing some thing. I also feel that as we scrutinize and make sure all the i’s are dotted and the t’s crossed we totally miss life going around us…at the same time when we do focus on the things that makes us feel good, we become magicians bending time…because like you say, time ceases to exist. We start living in the now. But where or how do we do both? Can we do both?
Maybe, it’s the question of priorities and being true to ourselves?

I’d really love to be a magician and bend time, Shree.
When I become one, I’ll let you know… and perhaps answer your question! 😀

Jappy Saturday to you too, Sir Aquatom, and I did notice the typo, (’tis something I am programmed to look out for, being a typos queen 😉 ) I think if we stopped and thought about all we do, we’d slow down and stop and then start, ever so slowly, thinking ‘do you really want to do this or that?’ I (heh!!) for one, don’t know the answer to your question, did you? Subconsciously? maybe or maybe not. BUT ’tis great to wonder and ponder with you, think too deeply? Nah!! Impossible to do that, methinks, for I sometimes get so convoluted in my thoughts I get tied in knots and my best poems emerge. Or so I like to think. I, I, I am off now, Wimbledon awaits. Jappy Jappy day to you. 🙂 xPenx

      Jappy Saturday, Pen! 😀
I find the inspiration for my rhymes on the way back from my deep thinking journeys. There must be something in this deep thinking lark.
Enjoy Wimbledon! Me – I’m off to Sainsbury’s. (Other supermarkets are available)

hmmmm, is right always perfect. for me it seldom is. right can be such a combination of things, some of which seem wrong to the casual observer

That is so true, Sideview. I like your example of the child’s painting highlighting that right and perfect are totally different from each other. And I agree that if everything we did was right, everything still wouldn’t be perfect… maybe to some it would, but not all…

The new title is very intriguing…Escape within the sphere of what TL ? Of course you well know there is no such thing as time. It was created by man for some nefarious purpose. All there really is is now, so yes you knew you had typed the I and typed it again, but actually at the same time as there is no time 🙂 Be well friend. Glad to see the change and new energy….Happy weekend. Blessings to you TL…..VK

Ah, VK… an explanation: The ‘Escape’ is my blog, an escape from reality (sometimes… although mine or the reader’s is to be confirmed…). The Sphere is the blogosphere and / or the Universe and everything else (which there is no real escape anyway). The word ‘Escape’ isn’t a permanent feature up there, it will change from time to time. We’re all Within The Sphere, so I wanted a name that would reflect more of everyone and everything rather than focusing solely on me. However, apart from the change of name, most things will remain the same. Glad you like the change and energy. I’m hoping I can keep it up once I finally get back to full time blogging again.
      Thanks for the link!
Hope you’re having a good weekend!

I’m always looking for the bigger picture as well… all I usually get to see are some snippets. Mighty fine as they are, I must add!

Tom, I think you are right. One can get hung up on perfecton, and sometimes allowing imperfections to creep in can allow creativity in through the door too. Course, imperfection was what allowed us to crack the Enigma code – one operative made a few mistakes and that got the code crackers at Bletchley a way in. So perfection has its place.

    But I’m deeply imperfect.

All seriousness aside, do you jonestly believe this is a mistake? To me it sounds like your sub-conscious is saying, ‘Honestly, you know I’m JOKING here. Hmm. A new word… I think it’s here to stay.

Like children are free and don’t worry about details, (Purple hair? Yes!), why not allow ourselves more freedom of expression? You never know what diamond is waiting to be discovered and polished.
