Opportunity Knocked?

The Loch Ness Monster stared at me for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes! Tilting its head from one side to the other, as if trying to work me out. At one point, it stretched its long neck forward, as if trying to get a closer look.

Its tongue licked the air, and it constantly blinked its lizard-like eyes. The rest of its body remained underwater, all I could see was its head and neck.

Then I realised I had my camera. I rummaged through my rucksack; finally grabbing it from the very bottom.

When I looked up, the Monster was gone.

I was totally lost. I knew where I was generally, of course, Bhutan, at the foot of the Himalayas.

I’d managed to get separated from the rest of the expedition somehow, and couldn’t call for help on my mobile phone… the battery was dead.

I caught sight of someone ahead of me, dashing from the clearing into the trees, so I decided to follow. And then I wished I hadn’t. Ahead of me, looking out from the trees was the Abominable Snowman.

As my camera is on the phone, I couldn’t even take the photo for proof. However, I ran.

The sea was calm that night. The sky was cloudy, but not overly so. The Moon shone brightly behind the clouds, casting a nice glow for miles around.

I was alone on the deck. Although I was tired, I couldn’t sleep, hence deciding to take a stroll around the deck. The excursion during the day was long, I presumed the other passengers were well away.

The formation of the brightly coloured lights by the Moon caught my eye first. Then, the gleaming metallic sphere came into view. I tried to get a photo, but all I captured was the Moon.

A trio of tall tales for Sideview’s weekend theme this week, which is That Elusive Photograph. I feel I must add: always be prepared to take a photograph, for it just may be the one that the whole world has been searching for…

dammit, Sir Aquatom, if only… and three times a missed opportunity, methinks the saying ‘third time the charm’, is so wrong… Ah well, mayhap it’ll be the fourth chance where everything clicks and the photo, which changes our perceptions of the world about us, is taken… Loved the three snippets, they painted perfect pictures in the mind… xPenx
(Man U play today, strewth… I waited n’ waited for them to appear on Match of The Day… sigh!! ’tis ever so, mayhap I had a rush of sweetness to the brain 😉 )

There are many more times where a camera or phone would have come in handy, Lady P… so it’ll be more like the fortieth or fiftieth time – but one day!
At least they didn’t play on Friday and you missed them… imagine that! 😉

Ah yes….The camera that doesn’t work or has no film….Who needs a camera when they have your captivating descriptions to paint them a picture? Good job as always TL. Thanks for sharing them….VK

A pleasure, VK! I paint a rather one sided view, whereas a picture could reveal many more truths. Maybe the reason we can’t get the pictures we are so keen on is because we aren’t ready for the truth yet? Hmmm…

Such great opportunities, too. I struggle to get everyone in a photograph to look the same way at the right moment. 🙂

Memories are good, because they can be slightly altered. Photos are fixed!

Thanks, Kate. Timing is very important in the world of photography. I’m always a second too late. Or early…

Tough luck, Tom. Darn phone batteries. Why do they die when they’re needed most. We no long have Kodak moments because they’re out of business. Is that why those moments are lost?
I enjoyed these stories. Keep on trucking.

That happens to me all the time. You’ve no idea how many aliens and monsters I’ve forgotten to take pictures of. *bitterly* And if I took a photo of a lifetime, some ‘expert’ would prove conclusively it had been photoshopped …

Well “they” say if one is meant not to see some thing they won’t have the opportunity to see it…therefore the reason why that camera never came of use! I feel it is especially true for the magical beings such as these . Thank you for sharing what you saw through your words though …words can be powerful vehicles to imagination…or some thing like that..hehehe 😉

I think that’s very true, Shree… how often can we not see the wood for the trees?

Terribly frustrating when the shot appears and the camera’s not ready . . . OR when the camera’s ready, but the perfect shot refuses to appear.

The thing is, Nancy, those situations are not at all rare! You’d think by experience we’d be ready… but we never are! 😉
