A post for Illustration Friday.
The theme for this week is Swim… although I’ve gone for the option of illustrating the swimmer, rather than the word swim. Slight difference, but in the same area. Water!
In a not too strange land, not too far away, there is a species of humans who live in the water. Well, I say humans, but they don’t actually have legs, just a very strong tail. They are shy, retiring creatures, and have never been photographed.
I caught sight of this chap as I was driving passed the lake’s edge the other evening. I didn’t have my camera with me, and my mobile phone was tucked away inside my pocket. Anyway, I couldn’t stop, but had just enough time to take in the image of the water dweller just bobbing about in the water, his tail swishing from side to side behind him, in and out of the water.
His skin was a pale purple, and looked very scaly. It also gleamed in the end of day sunlight.
His body looked very muscular, but slightly odd from a human point of view, although humanoid in appearance… however I could only see to just beneath his shoulders. He had strange pointed ‘flaps’ that protruded from his jawline from beneath his ears down to his chin, and his ears too were pointed. He had the most golden hair.
When he spotted me looking at him, he became motionless in the water. His eyes set, and he stared at me, almost like a cat does when they stare through you rather than at you. I got the impression he was trying to hypnotise me, but because I was too far away I was outside of his range.
And then, in the next instant, he was gone. Beneath the water he went without leaving so much as a ripple. He bobbed up a second later, over on the far side of the lake, probably just to show off his speed, and then he was gone once more.
I haven’t done him justice in this illustration… and there was also more than one tree on the bank, but you get the general idea of how he looked.
Maybe next time, I’ll have my camera with me.
Maybe next time, I’ll see more… and take the photos to prove it…
