Ledditsnow! Ledditsnow! Ledditsnow!

All weekend, I’ve been trying to find the on button for the snow, and it wasn’t there.
Resigned, I thought that we weren’t going to have any snow this year, so left things at that. When I came to look at my blog earlier tonight, it was snowing!!!

Apparently, I’d kept it on from last year, and because of that, it started automatically this year.

I always find myself transfixed by these artificial snowflakes. Before I know it, twenty minutes have passed and I’ve just been staring into, well, nothing really.

I like watching snow. It carries me. As it gently floats downwards, I can feel myself raising upwards. I let my mind clear, and find myself flying without actually leaving the ground. I can sit, or stand, like that for hours if nothing interrupts my trance. I don’t get anything done, yet I can travel for millions of miles in those few minutes. Very relaxing.

Inside I can sit or stand like that for hours. If I’m outside, it’s all I can do to keep myself upright as I dash to actually get inside, and into the warmth. I don’t mind being out in the snow, but not for long. I remember one year, as I was dashing through the snow, I lost my footing. Well, to be precise I knew exactly where my footing was, it just wasn’t under my legging. I’d stepped in an overly slippy patch of snow, and my right leg decided to dash off in front of me at a rate of knots. Obviously, when such a thing happens to one’s footing, the rest of the body goes a thudding. And a bouncing. And usually when one has a spectacular slip-up such as this, there is always, ALWAYS, a GROUP of people milling around to see it happen.

You can’t fall spectacularly without anybody noticing.

I picked myself up, and hobbled into the shop, where I was actually dashing to. I bought my things, and then limped out of the shop, where I noticed all of the spectators were gathered in a huddled circle.

“There he is now” one of them said.

Not only had they seen me, they remembered me, and reminded me. I walked out of the shop trying not to limp, in an ‘it wasn’t me!’ kind of way, but I was kidding no-one. I was famous for those few minutes that felt like hours.

Yes. I like being carried by the snow when I’m watching it on a computer screen or out through a window. I’m not particularly keen on being carried by the snow in a groundwards direction, however hungry for fame my Inner Celebrity gets…

On December 21st, I’m hosting a blog party right here, to celebrate, well, anything really! For part of the celebrations, I’m providing a few blogging prompts, themes or writing challenges, should anyone feel the urge to write a post on their blog, that they can link to on the party post that day. The party is all about connecting and promoting each other’s blogs, bringing us all together, under the guise of the End of the World – I mean a New Beginning. Hopefully the day will be fun, and the chance to promote other people’s blogs, favourite posts that could do with another airing on our own blogs, and a chance to show off an interpretation or two of some rather odd writing prompts.

Yesterday’s prompt was ‘The fun side to a bad hair day’.

Today’s prompt is ‘Dashing through the Snow’.

Not that there are any points or prizes or anything, but if there were, more points or prizes could be earned if the two prompts are used together in the same post. I’m just suggestin’, that’s all!

Your blog is snowing, Tom. Or, is it mine? I know mine is snowing.

I like the snow, Nancy, as long as it doesn’t out-stay its welcome!

I too have had my legs shoot out from under me and landed on my well padded posterior – embarrassing and bruising, but I lived! 🙂

    Thankfully I didn’t have an audience! 🙂

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

      You were lucky then, Prenin.
I always seem to have an audience!!!

What a fabulous line: “I knew exactly where my footing was, it just wasn’t under my legging”! And I’ve been there, too… rolling suddenly on the ground wondering what happened.

But here’s a question for you (and for all of us for that matter): Why are we embarrassed when we fall, and why do we feel as though we must leap up and carry on instantly no matter how much pain we’re in? We’ve all fallen. We all know how much it hurts. Why isn’t it acceptable to lie there and whine and groan and curse for a few minutes while absorbing the sympathy of passersby?

Maybe I’ll try that the next time I fall. Or maybe not. It might be embarrassing… 🙂

I have no idea why we react like that, Diane. I’ve seen ducks slipping on a frozen pond, and they just get on with things.. we, on the other hand, have to try to cover it up, pretend it wasn’t us, or make it look as though we intended to start running… mind you, if someone slips over near me, I do have to stifle my laughter, so I probably don’t help the cause there…

Isn’t that amazing, that you left the snow button on and lo! It snowed this year. WordPress do the equivalent if stashing all the decorations in a box in the attic and leaving them to mature. Wonderful 🙂

But, Kate, how did they know I was looking for the snow button this weekend?

They’re magic, Tom. They’ve borrowed some of Tinkerbell’s fairy dust. A little bit of pre-Christmas goodwill 🙂

Aww…lovely snowy blogs! Been too busy trying to catch up to actually visit my own but hopefully it’s snowing over there too 🙂
You’re right about there always being an audience when you slip head over heels Aquatom! This happened to me when I was confidently striding past a car and then whoops! Legs everywhere arms somewhere else! Ouch! Being as it was by a car I hoped I’d gone unnoticed 😉 Silly me EVERYone had seen me…Now however I have snow spikes for my footwear so the gigglers can laugh on the other side of their smug little faces! Thanks workplace!

I’ll have to take a look myself and confirm it with you, Icewolf… I’m always catching up!
I’m one of those gigglers, I’m afraid to say. Not when I fall, obviously, how dare anybody see that; but if anyone else slips, I chortle. Inwardly, of course!

So am I 🙂 Someone walked past my house last winter and next thing I hear is THUMP! CRASH! OUCH! Straight up on their rear bags and brolly flying everywhere! Oh dear! lol I’m sorry but I really had a howl that morning 😀 As karma would have it though on walking the opposite way up the same road…yes! You’ve got it! THUMP! CRASH! OUCH! And Wolf! Was it cold or what!!! 🙂

Managed a quick peep at my blog last night and yes 🙂 I can confirm happily it is snowing nicely in there…big soft snowflakes everywhere! They caused it to snow here too when I had to go to work…not so happy about that as I didn’t have snow spikes that fitted my footwear this time!

Good to hear that it’s snowing at yours too, Icewolf… I still need to get over there!
I’m sure that those who see us a-slippin’ and a-slidin’ all over the place will be inwardly chortling to themselves too, so I think we’re allowed! 😉

      I know this one, Sue!
In the dashboard, go to Settings, and then select General.
At the bottom of the General Settings page, the Snow tick box should be there, just above the Save Changes button.
And as for the 21st.. YAY! 😀
