Nocturne

Nocturne.

A piece of music that invokes feelings of the night and / or evening… or a painting or poem that relates to a night scene.

Come with me as I go on a strange and magical nocturnal journey, but not through music, paintings or poetry, but instead through the odd photograph or two.

The evening starts in spectacular fashion with a double rainbow high above the Grinds. Appearing brighter due to the incoming darkness, the rainbow sets the scene for the night’s journey quite nicely:

It isn’t long until the rainbow fades away as the Sun sets over the horizon, although all of the colours remain reflected on the clouds. Darkness is coming in at a quicker pace now, and the night’s chill is also closing in:

Walking past a wall, I’m greeted by an old friend. Her spirit sent to send me off on my little night-time jaunt. It isn’t long until she, like the rainbow, fades away into the stillness of the night:

Daytime is all but gone. Moonlight now illuminates the way. A cool breeze rustles through the trees, whispering “This sway… this sway…”. An owl hoots, hidden. Looking up, I glance out into the vastness of the Universe. My journey may be grounded, but my mind soars thousands of miles outwards, far into the magnificent void before me. A planet with its own moon appears in my vision, against the darkening backdrop. I shouldn’t be seeing this from here… but there it is!:

The Sun is now completely set, and the Moon now completely risen. Cool colours, not as bold as the rainbow earlier,  are now reflected off the clouds that appear to be below the Moon. Silence accompanies the darkness, the only sound now being the rhythm from my breathing, and the beating of my heart. Time stands still between each heartbeat. The night alters minutely between each breath:

The Lane beyond the Grinds is still and completely dark. Even through the darkness, the moonlight still manages to cast shadows here and there, and through the shadows I spot the occasional glint from some wary creature’s eyes, watching me as I walk by. The weathervane on the rooftop of one of the farm buildings seems to be pointing directly at the bright Moon. Go this way, the wind seems to whisper once again. So I follow its guidance and walk onwards, soaking in the splendour of the night:

Onwards I walk. Pondering the night. Enjoying the experience. Feeling Good, and energised through the mystical power of both the night and the Moon. I’ve also built up an appetite. It’s a good thing I’d laid out my Midnight Buffet just before I left:

It doesn’t feel at all that long until I’m back, although I’ve been walking for hours. The walk was pleasant. Invigorating. The food is now calling to me and my stomach is growling in response. No… not growling…

Howling.

Well, I think it’s my stomach, anyway! You can never be certain, here in the Grinds!

Wow! Your colors up top are a cosmic dayglo TL….Fun to watch it change. Nice. The walk sounds wonderful and the pix are great! Who was on the wall by the way? One of your buddies? I am looking forward to warmer temperatures so walking is back on the agenda! I’m done with winter. Have a great weekend…VK 🙂

Still changing things up there, VK… things should settle down soon!
That was Spudley, on the wall. Since she departed this mortal coil the other year, I still see her every now and then.
Oh, and yes… bring on Spring! I’m sure it’s time now…

I so have the song Nocturne by Secret Garden stuck in my head now! But it is a beautiful song, I think, so I should thank you for the reminder of it 🙂

Hi Jennifer! Yes, the night can be very relaxing at times!
I was debating whether to include that song with this post, but decided not to. At least it still gets its mention now, so thank you as well! 🙂

There was a time I loved the night.

It is too dangerous around here to go aimlessly wandering because of the gangs of psychotic teens who make the night their own. 😦

    God Bless!

They’ll not be doing very well with their schooling if they’re out until all hours, Prenin! 😉
