Four

There was something about today that I couldn’t place.

I got up in a hurry this morning as I was on the verge of oversleeping, but that wasn’t it. I just couldn’t work out what it was that was lingering with me, in the ether.

It wasn’t anything dark and foreboding, like the clouds that covered the torrential rain we had this morning – it went as dark as night at one point. When the rains left and the brilliant sunshine took control again, brightening everywhere to extreme squinting levels, inside as well as out, I still couldn’t work out what it was that was nagging at me.

Nudging me.

Tapping me.

It took me an age to get on line this evening, internet connection extremely dodgy (must have something to do with the weather, I think), but when I finally managed it, I was still none the wiser as to what it was that had stayed with me all day. Well, I say all day, but I promptly forgot about whatever it was at lunchtime, and didn’t give it another thought until this evening, when I noticed a reminder.

A strange cup-like object appeared in the orange comment thingy top right on the blog. I opened the notification viewer and saw this:

I then clicked on the notification and saw this:

And then it struck me.

It was four years ago this very day that I started this here blog, and nothing much has changed since then, really. I’m still experimenting with my writing (when I’m inspired, I hasten to add!) and waffling on about this, that and the other. I’m not posting as frequently as I was when I first started, and my stats are actually only slightly up on what they were when I first started the blog as well… which in a way kind of balances things out a little. I shouldn’t really look at the stats anyway, and just blog for the sheer enjoyment and fun of it, like I did in the very beginning when I was writing basically to myself.

But still, even though I say nothing much has changed, it has. It really has. I’ve met some great bloggers over the past few years, some still blogging, others gone to pastures new.

And I’m still trying to write including the odd gimmick every now and again. The gimmick for this post being it’s four hundred and forty four words long.

Well, why not?

It is my fourth Blogday after all.

And, you wonder, how am I celebrating it? I shall tell you. I’m in the East Wing washing my smalls.

I’m such a party animal.

I’m having a glass of wine in your honor, Tom. The blogosphere would be lonely with you and some of the others I started with. I’m glad you’ve stuck to it.

I am a younger blogger – started in 2011 – though I suspect an older person. Nevertheless I tune in to what you have written here at least as far as the blog for the fun of it bit. I wonder what anniversary WordPress will think up next. Keep blogging, it is fun to read too.
