Aphorodíta

Aphorodíta,
Cast in marble
Watches through the years

Yearning,
Waiting,
For Phoenicia,
Her land to reappear

One Phoenician,
Her Phoenician,
Adonis, she waits for too

But cast in marble
She waits forever
For that’s
All she can do.

Behind the marble
The story’s different,

They live on forever more

Even in the Underworld,
even if for half the time,
And after death by wild boar

Legends last as statues do
Throughout the tests of time

But Aphrodite and Adonis
Seem a fit for Valentine’s…

***

Another Phoenix appeared to me today, this time as an answer to a question. Yesterday, it was a visitor from Phoenix, Arizona. The day before that, it was the Sochi Firebird. Adonis, son of Phoenix, god of beauty and desire was swept off his feet by Aphrodite, goddess of love, beauty and sexuality, even if she was under the spell of Eros’ arrow. Eros is one of the personifications of Valentine’s Day, so everything seems to fit.

OK, maybe the jigsaw pieces are slightly out of place, but that’s the fun of legends… things change as time moves on, but the essence is still there.

Every now and then, another spark will ignite the legend once more. The tale will grow again, come alive again, just like the rebirth of the Phoenix.

I’ve still no clue as to why I’m seeing all of these Phoenixes, but it’s interesting spotting them every day all the same!

Of that it is, Andra. Of what, I have no idea…

Phoenix is not just a symbol of rebirth from the fire, it was also the name of the tutor of Achilles, so maybe this is a learning experience for you? 🙂

Lovely poem thread though Tom! 🙂

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

There’s something that needs to be learned, I feel also, Prenin. I just have to wait for the what to come along, rather than the reminders that it’s on its way!

All those visitors, Tom. How many do you have in a good year? Is this the most you’ve had for Valentine’s?

Behind the Marble, Sir Aquatom, .. I’ve always felt there’s something going on behind that pale, immobile exterior. NO emotion showing, and those eyes, rounded and blind, yet? Perhaps a flicker? (Ifn’ I stare long enough) Phoenix ‘s must be ever so rare, and you’re seeing ’em all over. Like you say, must be a sign of ? Who knows eh? Watch this space… (I am!!) xPenx

I’m watching too, Pen. Watching and waiting… like the statues. Only my eyes look more realistic!
