Ocean Colour Scene

Ocean1

I’ve not participated in Illustration Friday for a few weeks, and had a look at their prompt for this week, which is Ocean. I thought that’s an easy prompt, and then went away and wondered how I could illustrate the ocean.

At first, I thought I’d try to come up with an image with a variety of dolphins, whales, sharks and other large sea-dwelling creatures, with a ship on the horizon, and then had second thoughts. In my mind’s eye, I saw a busy mess, and wanted a simple illustration.

I came up with one fish (please don’t ask what type of fish it is) and copied it many times onto the background. And this isn’t as busy as my original idea was.

As I like to fly, I thought I’d have the fish flying as well, leaping from the depths of the ocean to feel the warmth of the sun. Whether fish feel warmth is another thing entirely, but being Piscean myself, I hope to think that they do!

Tom loved your flying fish, reminded me of the film clip in The life of Pi… so long as you haven’t got a ‘tiger in your tank ‘LOL or maybe you have 🙂 … Loved your art work 🙂

Thanks, Sue… I haven’t seen that film, but have a feeling I’ve seen a trailer for it… and it’s more of a kitten in the tank than a tiger, but it looks tigerish! 😀 Glad you liked the fish!

Spectacular T !!! Just love the fish with their catfish whiskers and their determination to get to where they are going…Love the colors as well…Such a great piece! Thanks for sharing. You need to be putting your talent to good use. I can see a kids shower curtain made out of this 🙂 VK

I’ve never thought of my pictures being on anything, VK, you’ve opened up an idea for me that I may explore one day!
I’m glad that you like the fish… whether they are catfish though remains to be seen… 😀

I quite like the idea of the fish reaching out for the sun. If I were a fish, I’d like to feel the warmth of the sun every now and then, I think. Not too much. But sometimes.

I agree. Fish must feel the warmth of the sun at times… very often they pop up out of the water for a little look around! 😀

Wonderful! We have “flying fish” in our lagoon. Sometimes they’ll leap out of the water and “fly” 10 feet or so before splashing back into the water. Then they do it again. And again. And again.

Like skipping stones . . . without the stones. 😀

Beautiful pic Aquatom 🙂 I love your artistic skills and in this case the expression on the fishes faces! It is such an appealing and heartwarming pic somehow…and the notion of them leaping out of the ocean and up towards the sun could also reflect our own human need to leap from the oceans of concerns that afflict us so often and in so many different ways, outwards and upwards towards the warmth and gentle embrace of the the life-giving Sun….and those fish do look very dreamy and happy about what they are doing!! 🙂
