Sometimes, I feel as though I’m living in a completely different place to everyone else. I know that my mind, and my Mansion, take me to a lot of different places, but I know the difference between those worlds and the world I spend the majority of my time in… most of the time, anyway!
Over the past few days, we in the United Kingdom have been battered by a storm of epic proportions. We’ve had yellow weather warnings, orange weather warnings, and even red weather warnings (which are usually quite rare, so this indicates the severity of things).
Towns all across this green and pleasant land are finding themselves under water as rivers burst their banks, and flood defence systems fail. Special divisions have been set up to help to rescue those people who have become trapped by the rising waters, and taken to temporary accommodation, so they will be ready to ‘get on with things’ once they are allowed to return home.
We’re good at getting on with things, us Brits, just as we’re good at moaning about the weather.
Not that I’m moaning, I hasten to add. And I’m not gloating either when I say I have personally seen no sign of this storm at all. Yes, we’ve had rain in my part of Cheshire, but no heavier than usual. Localised flooding is occurring, in random places. Larger than normal puddles of water lurk on street corners, creeping in places across the road, meeting their puddle buddies from the other side in the middle of the road – yet the rain, the drizzle in fact, seems to be very light.
I live in England’s North West, in between Liverpool, Chester and Manchester. I think I live in the Eye of the Storm. And I feel quite lucky.
Whenever the rest of the country grinds to a halt due to heavy snowfall, we manage to keep moving just a little longer until the snow manages to encroach into our little ‘bubble’. Sometimes, we have snow when nobody else does. It’s all very random.
The past few days have been mixed. Sunday, (25th Nov) we had glorious sunshine. Today, I don’t think we managed to get passed dawn – it’s been a dark day all day. A sprinkling of rain, no wind, thunder, lightning – anything that signifies storm conditions. Yet the rest of the country seems to be taking the brunt of things.
Like I said, random.
I’m hoping that this storm stays away from this little bubble I live in.
I’m hoping that the storm actually moves away, far out to sea, so it doesn’t cause any further problems for anyone.
I’m hoping that anyone who has been affected by the weather are sorted and back to normal in no time at all.
I’m hoping that we are storm free very, very soon.
And until the storm does move away, I’m hoping that everyone who it is affecting right now stays safe.
