Storm Free

Sometimes, I feel as though I’m living in a completely different place to everyone else. I know that my mind, and my Mansion, take me to a lot of different places, but I know the difference between those worlds and the world I spend the majority of my time in… most of the time, anyway!

Over the past few days, we in the United Kingdom have been battered by a storm of epic proportions. We’ve had yellow weather warnings, orange weather warnings, and even red weather warnings (which are usually quite rare, so this indicates the severity of things).

Towns all across this green and pleasant land are finding themselves under water as rivers burst their banks, and flood defence systems fail. Special divisions have been set up to help to rescue those people who have become trapped by the rising waters, and taken to temporary accommodation, so they will be ready to ‘get on with things’ once they are allowed to return home.

We’re good at getting on with things, us Brits, just as we’re good at moaning about the weather.

Not that I’m moaning, I hasten to add. And I’m not gloating either when I say I have personally seen no sign of this storm at all. Yes, we’ve had rain in my part of Cheshire, but no heavier than usual. Localised flooding is occurring, in random places. Larger than normal puddles of water lurk on street corners, creeping in places across the road, meeting their puddle buddies from the other side in the middle of the road – yet the rain, the drizzle in fact, seems to be very light.

I live in England’s North West, in between Liverpool, Chester and Manchester. I think I live in the Eye of the Storm. And I feel quite lucky.

Whenever the rest of the country grinds to a halt due to heavy snowfall, we manage to keep moving just a little longer until the snow manages to encroach into our little ‘bubble’. Sometimes, we have snow when nobody else does. It’s all very random.

The past few days have been mixed. Sunday, (25th Nov) we had glorious sunshine. Today, I don’t think we managed to get passed dawn – it’s been a dark day all day. A sprinkling of rain, no wind, thunder, lightning – anything that signifies storm conditions. Yet the rest of the country seems to be taking the brunt of things.

Like I said, random.

I’m hoping that this storm stays away from this little bubble I live in.

I’m hoping that the storm actually moves away, far out to sea, so it doesn’t cause any further problems for anyone.

I’m hoping that anyone who has been affected by the weather are sorted and back to normal in no time at all.

I’m hoping that we are storm free very, very soon.

And until the storm does move away, I’m hoping that everyone who it is affecting right now stays safe.

I think the mansion comes with a built in shielding system that activates automatically. It has been putting its shield up for some time now. Lucky you. Just pray the electricity doesn’t go off and the shield system goes down!!! VK

You could be right, VK, although I have a very strong feeling that the weather far surpasses the Mansions abilities! 😉

My little bubble is fairly well shielded too though the rain’s not really stopped for the last few days. I consider myself very lucky…apart from the soaking wet wall by the bed and the water running down the opposite wall right over the top of the socket I plug everything into!! Loose roofing tiles again I’m told but all seems to be well now my landlord’s been out on the roof in the torrential rain to sort it out!! Not sure all is well with him, he’s probably got the flu now but so long as my room’s ok!! lol ….I still maintain that if we stopped concreting our planet so completely there might actually be enough ground left to soak up the water and the flooding wouldn’t be so inclined to occur. As it stands we’re leaving nowhere for the water to drain off…and we try to blame it all on climate change!!

Ah you don’t want to be mixing water and electrics now, Icewolf… good job you’ve got things sorted up on the roof there!
There’s one thing about climate change that baffles me… apparently, it’s all our doing, so in blaming climate change, surely we’re blaming ourselves anyway. Yet we continue. You have a point with the amount of concrete!

Hmm…now that is a very good point…and very baffling too! We are a very strange species indeed 🙂

Strange, complex and totally baffling, Icewolf. Kind of interesting, in a blundering way…

It is absolutely terrible weather but luckily
I live on high ground and so the flooding is
    not a concern 🙂

I do feel sorry for those that have had their
homes flooded out, indeed there has been
three deaths reported on the news, which is
    incredibly sad…

    Have a rain-free Tuesday Tom 🙂

Thanks, Andro… I hope your Tuesday has been drier as well!
The flooding is really bad – North Wales today, and more lives claimed. As you say, terrible.

It’s a shame that rain is so poorly distributed across the planet ~ droughts here and floods there.

Hope things dry out for your neighbors soon.

    Hi Tom! 🙂

Yeah the weather is a major concern and there’s more on the way with the land so saturated even light rain is a problem! 😦

Thankfully I’m on the first floor, one above ground level, on a hill but I still managed to get my kitchen flooded because my upstairs neighbour STILL hasn’t had his overflow problem fixed and this is the third time I’ve had to dig his sorry ass out of bed! 😦

I agree with Andro though: Three dead is horrible! 😦

Hope you have a dry week my friend – as I hope for the end of this dreadful weather…

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

Oh no, Prenin – I hope you’ve sorted out your flood now!
I think there are more now who have lost their lives. It’s terrible just what the weather can do…
Yes, I hope things settle real soon!

        Hi Tom! 🙂

I’ve arranged for repairs to send somebody to fix my ceiling on the 10th of December, then the end of the world won’t find me unprepared! 🙂

The world has ended so often I’m amazed we’re still here… 🙂

        God Bless!

Hopefully it’s sorted very quickly for you, Prenin… and then you can enjoy the end of the world. You don’t want jobs getting in the way of enjoyment!
          Yes… we’re a hardy bunch, aren’t we?
