Iβve been dragged back into the twenty-first century for this latest post, and I was so enjoying meandering along those corridors of the past. Never mind, Iβll be revisiting the past in the near future anyway, so itβs not that much of a problem. Talking about time can get slightly tangled, which kind of fits in with this post.
Kind of.
Iβve read on the news that they are thinking of bringing in an on-line lie detector for social media, to test the authenticity of the information that is being broadcast to the world. They say itβs needed, so the speculation, controversy, misinformation and disinformation can be categorised accordingly.
So, if I twerped that I was in a bad mood and really wasnβt, sirens would screech and red bulbs would flash all across the planet β to those whoβd read that I was in a bad mood, that is. Well, I hope thatβs it. Itβd be very noisy and bright if the sirens and lights went off for everyone on-line when I said what I said.
Iβm not really sure which category βIβm in a bad moodβ would fall into, come to think of it. Disinformation β it fits there, but it also fits in with misinformation (especially as I wasnβt in a bad moodβ¦ why I said that in the first place I have no idea). It may also fall into controversy, as Iβm never (hardly ever!) in a bad mood.
It needs to be a really clever lie detector, thatβs all Iβm saying.
So.
In the near future, when this all singing all dancing on-line lie detector is brought on-line, a few helpful hints and tips for the settings you may want to use would come in handy. Hereβs a list I prepared earlier (in the past!):
- Set the lie detector to view the site you are viewing, and not the whole internet, to save your sanity.
- Turn your volume down to itβs lowest level, or set the lie-detectorβs alert function to lights only. That way, youβd still be able to hear your thoughts as you read.
- Use a book or cloth or other item to cover the light (if external), or run the on-line light in a separate browser in the background, so as not to be distracted.
- If reading my blog in particular, bear in mind that some of the posts may not be entirely true. And donβt think that just because the lie detector is going off, what you are reading isnβt the truth. Sometimes, when living in a fantasy world, the truth can be distorted somewhat. (Well, the truth can be distorted living in the real world as well, come to think of it, otherwise we wouldnβt need lie detectors in the first place!)
- Read what you read with a pinch of salt, and if it doesnβt sound real, it probably isnβt. Unless Iβm writing about one of my trips to Venus.
- If, when you are typing a post on a blog, or twerping something on social media, and you have to be hooked up to the lie-detector software with those finger attachments, wear woollen gloves beforehand. Mittens may work, but typing can become a little difficult, and you may end up writing something you didnβt intend to, and set lights and sirens off everywhere in the known Universe.
The alternative is not to use social media. Wait β I donβt, so thatβs easy for me. Or do not blog. Wait β noooo. Iβm not stopping blogging. Sorry world, if I set those lie detectors off with my posts, remember, itβs them. Itβs not me.
You can believe what you want to or donβt want to when you come here β all I ask is that you have fun. And that is the truth.
See.
No sirens.
