The Mansion Moves

There was an earthquake at the Mansion this morning, just, as usual, as I was getting up.

The quake rippled through me as I walked across my bedroom. It wasn’t a violent shake, or an uncomfortable quiver, but a definite ripple. With a loud rumble attached.

No damage done, the quake seemed to last about half an hour. It was more like half a second, but time seems to stop at moments like this.

The last time I felt this was a couple of years ago when the epicentre of an earthquake was in the middle of a field near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, UK, in February 2008. I was just trying to get to sleep back then, as it was around one o’clock in the morning when that one struck. Apparently that quake registered at 5.2 on the Richter Scale, and I was rippled fully awake. Good job that I couldn’t sleep that night, all things considered, or I would have missed it.

The one at the Mansion this morning was more localised. In fact, I think it was only felt at the Mansion, but I’d have to guess that it was on the same scale as the Market Rasen tremor. Maybe it was just the Mansion readjusting itself once again. Settling down, as it were.

Buildings tend to do that quite a lot, with creaks and groans and moans and clinks and clanks going on at all hours, without any other real explanation for them. And the weather has turned a bit blustery of late, shall we say, so the building is probably bracing itself for that as well.

And then there’s the ghostly visitors who pop in, to wail or move objects, or whatever else ghostly visitors do when they have free reign.

They wouldn’t have been here this morning, however, and they make me feel more than just a ripple when they do visit. So this morning, there was an earthquake.

One of the meteorites out in the Grinds seems to have moved slightly, revealing in the hole what looks like some kind of roof, which was hidden beneath the lawn previously. Slightly covered is a little roof window, so I would guess that there is another part of the Mansion under the Grinds.

This Mansion literally goes on forever, spanning time zones, and even countries on occasion. It’s a very strange place, actually, and takes some getting used to. I know. I’m still getting used to it.

So. I wonder what secrets the Mansion is beginning to reveal to me now. I can’t wait to explore what’s inside the underground building out back, although my explorations will have to wait for a few days.

Unless the Mansion wants me to see those secrets sooner… in which case, who am I to stop it? Time, or the Mansion, will tell…

Gads. I’m afraid to say anything. I might get jinxed too. I know you don’t need any help. You know the mansion well enough—better than anyone.

It is fair to say that I’m kind of used to the Mansion’s foibles, Tess. Until it surprises me, that is!
      Not jinxed though… entertained! 🙂

I remember the 2008 quake too Tom! 🙂

I was up working on my PC when the there was a low rumble and then the building shook enough to almost knock over the monitor on my video editing set-up! 🙂

It lasted only a few seconds, but it scared the crap out of Tracey and PJ who were in bed at the time! 🙂

Sounds like the Mansion has more to offer you my friend! 🙂

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

The 2008 was quite definite, Prenin, to say the least. It woke me up, and I spent the next hour or so watching the breaking news on the BBC! Shattered the next day, but there you go!
There are secrets within secrets within this Mansion, Prenin…

I remember the after shocks after the big earthquake near Aceh, in Sumatra…the one with the terrible tsunamis…the walls of my house seemed to move gently…it was kinda freaky!

Your mansion sounds totally awesome and yet a little scary! Though at times I wonder if we all live in mansions like yours 😉

That must have been frightening to experience, Shree. It was devastating to watch on the news.
As for living in Mansions like mine, I always thought everybody did anyway. Awesome and scary sums it up nicely. And confusing. Don’t forget that one!

Tom, it sounds like your walls are about to talk very soon. Having grown up in San Francisco, from an early age I quickly developed an aversion to terra that wasn’t firma. I remember when I was about seven feeling so scared during one minor earthquake, I vowed to myself, “When I grow up, I’m moving to New York to get as far away from this bull —t as possible!” Ironically, about two years ago there was an earthquake in NYC. I was out running an errand and felt nothing, but when I returned to my workplace, I noticed hundreds of people standing in the street. All office buildings had emptied and people were freaked out.

I remember watching your New York earthquake on our news… they are all the more frightening when you don’t usually experience them.
We have literally hundreds of tremors over here every year, but they are so slight we never notice them. Or think they’re a truck passing…

I remember a little quake in Greece once
when I was there, it only lasted seconds but
like you already said, it does seem longer
and rather weird, especially when we are not
used to them in the UK…

Have a brilliant Monday Tom 🙂
