Summer Storms

The air’s thicker… hotter… stickier
The sunlight is just getting through…
Surreal darkness fills the afternoon
As the weather chooses what to do.
The wind is slight and welcome
Although the breeze is hardly there
The trees are braced, the birds hidden,
They know what’s in the air.
A distant rumble… A flash of light
And the sky is hidden
As though it’s night.
Thunder booms overhead
Raindrops freshen – it must be said –
Lightning forks across the sky…
The clouds roll and swirl above…
It rains and stops and rains some more
Even heavier than before…
More thunder claps and lightning streaks
Then sunbeams filter through the clouds
Bright blue skies appear once more
The rain stops, a rainbow glows,
The warm sun appears as before
The thunder’s passed – it has moved on…
It’s odd, this weather; these summer storms
As quickly as they start, they’re gone…

Love thunder storms if they aren’t too severe. Makes you feel all cozy inside your house. Sounds like it was refreshing, cleared things out. Enjoy and be well T…..Blessings…VK

A very English scene, Tom 🙂 I love thunderstorms, as long as they bugger off in good time and give us the sun back.

True, Kate. I like nothing more though, than being indoors whilst the rain is lashing down and thunder is rumbling away overhead… a bit like tonight actually (although the thunder’s missing…!) 😉

Love these type of posts Aquatom 🙂 I suspect there is a storm brewing ready to burst on my head just as I arrive at Trafalger Square tomorrow for the Olympic Victory Parade! I have my union jack umbrella at the ready and will be thinking of your post as it probably is inter-dimensional and will slip through a rift in space between your blog and London around 14:30 tomorrow 🙂

Hope the portal -erm- weather missed you, and you had a good day at the parade, Icewolf. According to the news it was good!

I did thank you Aquatom, it was an awesome day and I had a wonderful time. I’ve been wading through the billion and one photos I took tonight and admiring my videoing skills lol now I’ve got them uploaded! I think Olympic fever took over though because we jumped on the wrong train going back and ended up in Winchester! That’s about an hour’s journey from London, 50 min wait for a train back which we also missed and just made the last one of the night back to London by the skin of our teeth!! A consequence of my friend wanting a photo of himself under the Winchester sign to post on facebook! Oh wolf!! 😉 Men!!

Good to hear it, Icewolf! The day that is, and not your scenic journey back!

I love a good old thunderstorm with the lightning and strong winds! Those are the times it feels lovely to sit at home with a hot drink and marvel and nature 😀
