What’s that knocking?

When night time comes
And darkness falls
With silence all around
I settle down
And try to sleep
But can’t due to a sound
A gentle tapping
No – strong rapping!
Is coming from my door
I’m wrong again
It’s beneath me now
A knocking from the floor

The rooms below
Are all alone
For I’m here by myself
And I’m not so sure
That was what I saw
When the book floated from the shelf

The voice I heard
That wasn’t mine
Was strong, distant and fair
But can a voice
Just say “Hello!”
When there’s no one there?

The lights I see in the corners
Of both my room and eyes
Are strangely dancing
Glowing bright
Am I hypnotised?

A cold draught suddenly brings me back
The lights have disappeared
But there’s one thing that still remains
The knocking that I feared

It is! I had to write it down quickly, Prenin, before I forgot it! Well, posting it on here’s the next best thing! I’ll probably repost it this coming Halloween. I don’t like saying this, but its not too far away now… 😯

Really nice reading. Isn’t that something? That something that’s there but isn’t? Spooky yes, but real nonetheless. I know what you’re talking about.

My first house had something in it. I thought I’d have to sell before I even moved in. Stayed 13 years and things got better.

I love things that go bump in the night, Tess. Spooky things, that is. There’s plenty of them around here!
I think sometimes you just have to ‘make friends’ with the presence and whatever / whoever it is settle down when they become used to you.

Were it not for the things which go bump in the night I would never get any rest. I have often lived near trestles and tracks. The only time the trains ever woke me was when they were late. Same goes for a completely quiet house. I rather like the camaraderie of the ghost clamoring about.

Yes, I found this too, Red. Years ago I used to live on a main road, and the traffic noise was very comforting. When we moved to a quieter road, the silence was very strange. I think I prefer the silence now, but every now and then a strange noise will come along and break it…

Excellently written Sir Aquatom with a nice flowing
edge into the darkness of night, the tapping and the
frightening thoughts that haunt the psyche…

Have a wondrously enjoyable weekend my great friend 🙂
