One Minute Ramble: Oh, Fonts!

WApologies for the near expletive there. I have come to the conclusion that if I had half a brain cell that actually worked, I’d probably still find myself taking one step forwards and two steps back.W

I have just realised something that is so obvious you’d wonder why I didn’t realise it in the first place. Fonts only work if you have them installed on your computer. It makes sense, really… programs only work if they are installed so it stands to reason that fonts will too.

I really shouldn’t be working in computing. Anyway, my career will wait for another day.

I’d discoveWred a different font that I was using in the posts on this blog, and they looked really good. Nice, larger lettering, easier to read, and just a little more unique. I checked my blog on another computer and the font was bloomin’ Times New Roman (or something like that)! Hardly special. Sorry to any Times New Roman fans who stumble across this post – it’s a nice font, just not what I wanted.

WWW

Hopefully, this one, Trebuchet, will appear on a different machine. Not as different as the one I thought I was using, but not Arial or Tahoma either. We’ll see. I’ll see…

WTalking of fonts, I downloaded a really exciting curly free font from some website or other, and when I was trying it out in Word, it didn’t have a capital double-you. It’s not very often that you’d need a capital W, but it just so happened that I did in my trial run. I didn’t have one, so the font had to go. Expelled from my library of fonts.

If this font (Trebuchet) doesn’t appear, Arial will have to suffice. Or Times New Roman. Or whichever displays on the computer currently being used.W

I don’t know. Dodgy mouses, wrong fonts and missing Ws? What next? The world of computing is going mad… and that is before I mention the extinction of the old style web addresses. Not that I will mention it. 8 bit, 4 bit, 16 bit and all that. We need more Ws first!!! And, oh, Where Would We be Without Ws for the World Wide Web???

It kind of makes sense…

true enough, Sir Aquatom, where would we be without wubble u’s I ask you?… and I always find sense … (or some sort of… ) when I visit your blog. 😉 FONTS, I luv ’em. BUT my theme won’t support any other than Georgia. I have downloaded loads onto my PC, hang on…>>>> bear with me >>>> Captain Spandex, Cajun Boogie to name just two… and of course I can’t show you , ‘cos they’ll just appear as the Font you have on your comment box. At first I thought I could use them all, and I was like a kiddy let loose in a sweet shop, (only less chance of getting fat, although thinking about it , I have no idea if font’s are fattening?) … mind you I think I have trebuchet (traybushay? Just saying out out loud.. or trying to, or tree bucket? whichever!!)… hundreds of fonts… and nowhere to use ’em… I shall die… I shall truly die fontlessly… Dramatic to last!! xPenx

ACTUALLY, (<< this was Ace Crikey font but… ) … that should have read Dramatic to THE last. but it lost any impact having to correct it…. bummer being a crap typist… 😦 xx

I wouldn’t say it lost impact, Pen, just delayed the reaction somewhat! Being a crap typist can have its funny moments too! (And believe me, I’m speaking from experience!)

I hope the treebucket font is appearing hither and thither, but my great ‘aha’ moment has taught me that it may not be everywhere. Oh well.

I found a font called something like ‘Disneyist’ , based on Walt’s signature. It looked quite good, and I bet that would have a capital W.

        Georgia’s a nice font – I didn’t mention that in my post…
