You don’t get to become a world-famous investigator over night… I mean, you could do, but you couldn’t really be any good at it.
When I started out, I was terrible… no, not terrible, let me rephrase that, I was overenthusiastic.
I’d somehow find myself in precarious situations, being the brains and the boffin of the group, off finding clues sticking out of trap doors and hidden doors and getaway vehicle doors – usually in pitch darkness with somebody else holding a flashlight that didn’t really light anything because the holder was too busy dithering and shaking and quaking over an eerie moan that we may or may not have heard through the darkness.
Usually in such situations I would stumble, no fall, over the clue, my glasses would fling off, and I would be left scrabbling around, unable to function, because I can’t see a thing without my glasses.
Which always brings to mind the question of how could I see anything in pitch darkness with or without the glasses on… and I fell over the clue because I didn’t see it in the first place.
And that is what makes all the difference… just because you can’t see in the moment, it doesn’t mean you aren’t going to get to where you want and need to be – one day, you too could be a world-famous somebody just like me… jinkies.
