Reminiscing

All this talk of hippies and the Sixties has set me back.

Where too, exactly, I know not… but let’s see if we can unfathom something, shall we? Or should that be fathom? Anyhoo, moving on… I feel a trip down Memory Lane coming on.

A lot has happened since the Sixties… forty odd years ago is a long time when you stop and think. We used to have black and white television in those days. The year before I was born, BBC 2 started to broadcast everything in colour, which was all well and good, but if you only had a black and white set it didn’t look any different. Mind you, I only remember from 1972 in this lifetime, so that last sentence doesn’t really count.

We had to walk to the phone box. Well, I didn’t, being honest, I was pushed. I was too young for walking in the Sixties. But there’s one thing for you – I’m now a very proficient walker, if I say so myself. Others who know me may disagree, but I do it quite well. And I manage it upright, most of the time! The furthest most of us have to walk to make a phone call nowadays is into the other room, if we happened to leave the mobile in there earlier on in the day. And all we need to do is tap a few numbers and (if the person we are calling answers) get through straight away. Back in the Sixties, in some cases, one had to be physically ‘put through’ to someone else’s telephone by the operator. That said, I was a telephone operator back in the 1980s (we were nicknamed Call Girls back then – I know! Terrible!), and the practise of being put through was still going on then as well – it would probably still be happening today, I’m sure.

It may feel like it, but believe it or not this blog hasn’t been around since the 1960s. Yes, I know that on the odd occasion time stands still when reading one of my posts, but it’s always been like that, and I can’t see that changing anytime soon.

Like the passing of time since the 60s, a lot has also happened on this blog since it started in 2010. It’s changed its name twice, for starters. It’s had four-thousand eight-hundred and twenty three theme changes… I’ve changed my name on one occasion also – but through it all I’ve always been me. I. One’s always been I. But, to put it bluntly, regardless of the fact that it FEELS as though this blog has been around since the Dawn of Time (AKA the 60s in my world!), it really hasn’t. The only connection to the 1960s with this blog is me. And I’m still only 24!

Why am I reminiscing, you ask. Thank you, person at the back there! Well, as I said at the beginning, it’s due to all the talk of hippies and I’m another year older on Sunday. I can’t get away with saying I’m 24 any longer. I will be double the age that I say I am, and thrice the age I feel. And some mornings I wake up feeling as though I’m already 50 (sacre bleu!), so going by that logic that makes me 150. Sigh. I can’t even lie well about my age any longer. Even my waist size is less than my age… it was many, many, many a year when the opposite was true. Even with all the exercise I do. I’ll sigh again. Sigh.

I’ve tried all sorts to combat the effects of aging. I created a special bubble bath that had catastrophic effects… I’ve tried high speed travel to reverse the aging process, and just ended up with egg flour on  my face. I made myself a nutritious, delicious drink to lose weight quickly which caused an adverse reaction… and I even tried to use my ever stylish hair to make myself look younger, by creating a special formula styling substance that probably created its own singularity.

Oopsy… time’s getting on. Once I start reminiscing, I can’t stop, and I don’t want another post that seems to go on for years. I’ll split it into a few parts and post over the weekend! Yes! That’s an idea.

So… more tomorrow…

A lot of time passeth by… It’s enough to think of all of us blogging together for the last four years or so, but back to the 60’s? Whew…Too aging for me. You’re still a young whipper snapper TL…Now I wonder what that word truly means? Any ideas?
    Have a great weekend…VK 🙂

I shall do some research for you, VK, and report back.
I’ve never been a whipper snapper, however, even when I was the correct age to be a whipper snapper, whenever that would have been…!

Ah….If you don’t know the true meaning of that magical word [whipper snapper] then how do you know you weren’t or still aren’t a whipper snapper? Have a happy my friend…VK

Very true, VK. I have an idea as to how I see a whipper snapper, but that may not be the true meaning. I may be right though… but more than likely wrong. We shall see! 😀

He’s suffering from a recurring bug at the moment, VK… he starts to feel better and then it returns. You should pop by his blog and say ‘hi’! It may cheer him up a little!

I remember phone boxes. I even remember them having A and B buttons. Ah…the good old days.

I remember mention of the A and B buttons, Elaine, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen any. Or maybe I have, but didn’t notice…

Not only did I see them, but I used them to phone home (reversing the charges of course, via the operator). A favourite activity was to press the B button (I think it was) to see if anyone had forgotten to press it at the end of their call to get their money back. It was always exciting when one or two pennies fell out.

It looks like you’ve given aging quite a lot of thought.
How’s that working’ for ya? Perhaps, embracing might be the answer.
Plus … hot stones massages and dreamy facial.
Mmmmm … I think good genes helps too.
    Happy – almost – Birthday 🎂

      Thank you, Isadora.
I have now cast aside all thoughts of aging and have returned to my normal ageless self. Or aged with a full stop afterwards… either way works!
