The King and the Candlelight

king and candlelight

I’m still feeling historical, but a creative urge has now joined the mix, so I decided to have a go at painting a right royal portrait.

So, I painted and I tweaked. I tweaked and I painted. I coloured and recoloured. And tweaked.

And painted.

And tweaked again.

And lightened and darkened.

I had a drink.

And started again.

Eventually, I was kind of happy with the result, although the playing card look wasn’t exactly what I was going for. That said, the King of Diamonds is still a historical figure, so I can live with it.

I shall be reinventing other historical figures over time… I’m merely exploring history, that’s all. And my creative side.

This could be a take on something from 1642, Tom. A tenuous link to something you saw.

Thanks, Prenin. It was based on Henry VIII, in a strange way!

I agree with Prenin that your historical chap does look Henry VIII-ish, Tom. I also think that feeling historical is preferable to feeling hysterical.
