The Way

I’ve been running for what seems like forty days and nights.

I was sure the treadmill would get easier the more I used it, but not this one. It’s getting harder. Each run is like climbing a steeper hill.

I wouldn’t mind, but I don’t look any different. In fact, I’m sure I look podgier. With aching knees.

The way to get fit for Valentine’s! promised the brochure.

That should have been my first clue.

Now, believe it or not, this is a piece of fiction. It’s a response to Colonialist’s new challenge, to write a short story of just 77 words, including the title. Clicking the badge to the left will take you to his site, and other entries.

I had to write the first one with a nod to Hallo Valentine’s, since that’s the current theme I’m persevering with. Tolerating, actually. Still, it’s nearly here now, and I can soon get back to more realistic blogging.

I mean to say, me, trying to get fit for Valentine’s?! Whatever will I think of next?

Pop along to Col’s site if you’re feeling up to the challenge!

A fun one outside of the usual run of things! 🙂
I checked the word-count, of course.

I don’t blame you checking, Col. I always do frequently, but get a different count every time!

What a frustrating situation, Tom. The harder you work, the less or no change gained. Great choice for the challenge.

      Thanks, Tess.
I’m not really that bad myself… I like to think, I do get subtle changes after exercise. Sometimes!

I know about the ‘sometimes’ bit from personal experience. 🙂

You are a good writer Tom and managed some wry humour at the same time! 🙂

    God Bless!

      Valentine’s Lady P? What on Earth’s that???
Yes, those brochures can be rather misleading at times… and thank you!

Exercise is one way to get fit, but what’s going on with your diet, Tom? If you’re serious about losing weight I suggest you practice portion control, eat more nutritiously and yeah, eat less. I’m not suggesting you starve yourself but you might want to refrain from eating an entire box of Valentine’s chocolate in one sitting – like my ex who’s favorite sport was complaining about what else? Her weight!

I agree completely, LA. Give me food over exercise any day!
