Banshee

The banshee wailed as the Full Moon shone brightly overhead. Extended shadows crept ever so slowly forwards, as they were as alive as everything else. Creeping vines from an unknown number of plants nearby reached out, trying to grab whatever they could.

The banshee leapt between vine and shadow alike, dancing. She was nimble and agile. They were restricted and limited.

Clouds started to obscure the light of the Moon, diminishing the power of the shadows considerably. No light no shadows. Vines retreated, almost consciously.

The banshee wailed as the first raindrop struck her forehead. Then the next, and the next. She relished the freshness of the elements. The mixed aroma of earth and rain sent her somewhat into a frenzy. She was wild and free, and never more so than at this present moment.

She was invigorated.

She was also hungry.

Soon, she would feed. But first, she would dance a little longer.

And just what pray tell does she feed upon? Make sure to save a chunk of your Halloween candy for her TL….VK

Do you know, VK, I haven’t got the foggiest idea?!
If she comes around here, she can have all of the candy, that’s for sure… and take it far away with her as well! 😀

There is nothing quite like a dance in the rain before
a ravishing meal, I am sure that she ate well into the
night and enjoyed every morsel of her wickedness 🙂

Another great Halloween story Tom 🙂

Thanks, Andro. I get the feeling she prefers to dance rather than eat…

As I read this Tom, there is something shrieking its head off outside my window. A rather appropriate soundtrack to your story.

      Well, LA, another coincidence!
They can be very spooky at times, these coincidences!

I could not turn off the Banshee’s wail. On and on she whined and carried on. Of course she’s hungry. It’s October! Again the question asked previously. What is it she eats? 😉
The picture seems to fade in and out, almost like it’s behind glass. How did you do that?

I did a quick looksee, Tess, and found a passage that said they ate grain.
When I re-read it, it was about the owls, where the legends of the banshee is said to have come from, as they ‘wailed’ chasing the rodents who ate the grain. When I speed read, I should really take more time!!! So, the real answer to the question is I haven’t got a clue!
The picture is an overly-tweaked line drawing of my interpretation of a Banshee. I like the odd look that developed with the tweaking… and the face does seem to change them more you look at it!

I agree. This rendition of the banshee is riveting and unavoidable. It follows you like a zooming camera…

So strange…….and I completely forgot what was so strange @.@ oh dear……..
    And it was pretty profound too…in a way….sigh 😦
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh….got it! I meant to say that it was strange how nicely you took a character that is supposedly a not so nice creature and described her as being one with nature, celebrating and dancing the night away, rejoicing! Well…it could also be because what she’s going to have for dinner wasn’t mentioned..hehehe.

It’s more likely to be the latter, knowing banshees, Shree, but I think this one likes being out in nature as well!
(By the way, I always forget what I… erm…)
