Cheshire Long Shots

Challenge number four of my 101/1001 challenge is to take 100 different photographs of Cheshire and add them to this blog.

I’ve already started this challenge, when I added the photos I took of the Moon with Jupiter and Venus a few weeks back, although, as it was night, not a lot of Cheshire could actually be seen. A few trees were visible, and the photographs were taken in Cheshire, so they are valid. They weren’t a hundred in total, though, so I still need to do some work on this.

I’ve been virtually out and about this evening, and have ‘taken’ a few more ‘photos’ from around Cheshire. I say virtually, as I haven’t actually left Aqua Mansion, and instead travelled all across the county along the roads of the Google Street Map thingy. Well, I use the Sky Map thingy from time to time, so why not use the other one too?

And before you say ‘hang on, that’s cheating!’, I’ll quickly add that the challenge is a flexible one and the rules can be changed at any time. But, in my defence, I will take some proper photos with my mobile phone as well, in due course…

So, the photos:

A street in Knutsford, Cheshire:

Lymm Cross, in Lymm, Cheshire:

A different view of the Thelwall Viaduct, which carries part of the M6 motorway over Thelwall, Cheshire:

The main street in Grappenhall, Cheshire:

A bridge in Warrington, Cheshire:

A street in Chester, Cheshire:

A road somewhere in Frodsham, Cheshire:

The view from a road in Croft, Cheshire:

And finally, a couple of long shots of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire:

OK. Virtual photographs aren’t exactly the real thing, but they are still photographs! I had to ‘go’ there via the Google Map thingy to get them, and going along some of those roads can take quite a bit of time – especially when I came across red traffic lights, but the less said about that the better at this time…

One day, I’ll add my actual photos of these places, actually taken with my actual mobile phone. Real ones.

I must say, though, that I’m quite impressed with this virtual world that we can now visit. And that reminds me, I may just have to visit my avatar in Second Life… I’ve not been there for quite a while, and I’m sure I left him hanging around somewhere…

You went the virtual route? The pictures are so clear! I can’t believe I’m using this language—the virtual route? OMG. I thought I was a virtual NERD. I guess I know a few things with or without my acknowledgement.

😀 We know a lot more than we think we know, Tess… I’m a virtual nerd by the way – most of the time I do things and not know how, or why, I’m doing it, but it gets done! 😀
The images are very clear though, aren’t they?

My friend Amanda is also from Cheshire. 🙂 I haven’t seen any of her photos of the place, but yours give me a great sense of where she’s originally from, Tom. Thank you for sharing these. Pictures of England always make me drooly.

Ooh, Andra, what part? I may know her. 😉 Well, there’s a chance, and you know me and coincidences!
Eventually, I’ll go out there and take some photos myself and post them so you can have a better look at life in Cheshire. I really don’t work for the tourist board, by the way! 😀

    Hi Tom! 🙂

I love Jodrell Bank I was there when I was 6 years old and met Sir Bernard Lovell, then went back a few years back and enjoyed the visitors centre and the arboretum and planetarium – great fun if expensive!!! 🙂

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

I’ve never been inside, Prenin, but I’ve always wanted to go and have a look. I’m fascinated by the massive dish whenever I drive down that particular lane in Goostrey (I think it is – near there, if not!)

Wow Tom, I love the idea of this challenge…a hundred photos…I wonder if I should take the challenge and do Oxford and London at some point. I hope you post a load of the photos! Love your challenges!

I think you should, Susan! I’ve been to London, but never to Oxford, and a guided tour is much better than roaming the virtual streets not knowing where anything is! (I’m struggling to come up with a couple more challenges to complete my list… I don’t suppose you have any suggestions?) 😉

I don’t know T…..Virtual photos??? Seems you are twisting the rules a bit to allow for some wiggle room…Get that camera and get out there in all the 3D reality and snap it before it becomes 5D…I think you best hurry too…Play fair now 🙂 VK

This post was my ‘trial run’, if you will… next time, the photos will be mine! In a good way, of course!

A friend of mine is from Chester. It’s a city I’ve always wanted to visit, lovely photos, and it doesn’t matter if you didn’t take them, they still give us an idea as to what the area looks like 🙂

Thanks, Alannah. Some of these images will have the copyright Google text on them, and are a little blurry in parts, but they are good for starters. As if mine will be any better though… wait and see! 😀
Chester is a lovely city, with lots of those black and white buildings, and the views from the city wall are amazing!

It would be interesting to see Cheshire from Google Earth, Tom. I always think crows have the best view of these things…

Hi Kate, things do look different from up there. I think the next time I’ll post my real photos, I’ll incorporate the bird’s eye view of the same place too… I like that idea! Thanks Kate! 😀

Virtual or not they are fine choices, besides as the rules
are flexible then why not add some more of them? After all
you are taking the time out to choose them and so adding
these is something of a positive action, it also gives us all a
wider view on this fine challenge 🙂

    Have a wonderful start
to your week Sir Aquatom 🙂

Thanks, Andro. I do want to take a few shots of my own though, but I may add a few more from the virtual world as well! 🙂
