Gliding the Gauntlet

Have you ever, even for just one second, stopped to consider the perilous life of a snail?

Day in, day out, they have to get from where they were to where they are going, literally at a snail’s pace, as the entire universe is in a rush around them. They amble along, in microscopic view of stomping boots, up and down cavern-sized crevices in the footpath, lumbering their lodges with them, whilst trying to blend in without attracting the attention of some hungry eagle-eyed bird in the sky above.

Most somehow manage it, even though it can take them seven hours to get from one side of a paving stone to the other. There are some, sadly, who don’t make it.

These are the ones you must consider… with everything that’s going on around them, do you think they actually know where they are going to end up?

Posted for Six Sentence Stories, where Denise’s prompt word this week is Rush.

If I am honest, considering how fast-paced life has begun, I would love to be a snail or a sloth or something… The rush is overrated…

I DO think, however, that some are equipped with speedy time travel (uneasily eyes the suddenly-appearing snails on her metal Venetian Blinds).

If you get to live your whole life in a small garden on one or two plants, what would be the point of being in a rush, anyway?
