I’ve not had a lot of time lately to do any kind of watercolour painting, and as such I feel I have lost what little knack I had. I tried to paint a couple of candles the other day, and the end result looked like some kind of strange stained glass window, so this swiftly became one image I didn’t want to share. Not to be put off, I tried again, and painted a snowman with a difference.
The reason for my painting is so I could contribute something – anything – to Charlie’s #WorldWatercolorGroup – this month’s adventure being Winter Wonderland. So I tried. Charlie has provided a list of items that can be painted, and a couple of them have been included within this painting, as luck would have it.
The painting itself isn’t as sinister as the title makes it seem. My original title for this painting was ‘Ingredients For A Snowman’, but I liked the sound of ‘Body Parts’ better. Besides, if I’d have gone with ‘Ingredients’, I’d have had to have gone into detail about rolling several large snowballs, putting them together, and arranging the items in traditional snowman attire. ‘Body Parts’ gets away from all that – and when I looked, the finished snowman with these parts would have looked like an abstract one… One large eye, one arm, two buttons, a carrot, and a fluffy woolly scarf.
I started to think that the two buttons would make ideal snowman eyes… and then I had the idea to flip the image upside down, where it begins something else entirely…
That’s right – it takes on the appearance of a strange bird, eating or carrying a strange black thing.
And, as luck would have it, today’s suggestion is a red bird. Yes, this one only has its red chin in the painting, but it has two sparling red eyes.
So now, I present to you ‘Body Parts of the Red Snowman Bird’. And to think, this all started out when I wanted to paint some candles.
I’m nothing if not decisive…
