The last Friday before Christmas

Between you and me, I’m having a little trouble getting into the Christmas Spirit this year, for some reason… I don’t know why. I’m loving all the Christmas themes going around, and the lights that are everywhere… maybe a little too everywhere, but ignore me – they still look nice.

Maybe it’s the weather… it’s like almost sub-tropical out there – not Christmassy at all. Even the plants are confused now, as Elaine points out in her Friday Letters.

Jo is helping me to get into the Christmas mood as she’s busy finding different versions of ‘Little Drummer Boy’. Her latest offering is here, but also check out her very first offering, which I think is my favourite version of all time.

I’m revisiting old posts, looking into the past for some festive fun. Here’s a trip down memory lane:

With
Silent Night
playing gently in
the background, I sit and think.
Back to yesteryear when I was young.
Back to yesteryear when I saw the magic in everything
Back to yesteryear when all of the days were long.
Back to yesteryear when I’d feel excited about almost anything.
Back to yesteryear when I’d sit and think with Silent Night playing gently in the
background.
Feeling excited.
Feeling the magic.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.

There. I’m feeling a little more Christmassy now. Just a little. There’s still a week to go, so maybe the full magic will appear then. Tomorrow, I’m doing the last shop before the last-minute shop before Christmas. That should fill me with the joys of the festive season… deep breath… I’m going in!

Ya know TL….I was thinking as I was reading that maybe, just maybe, we are meant to free ourselves of the old and embrace the new. There may be new ways of celebrating Christmas now as we have all grown and expanded our boundaries. We obviously know that presents and commercialism are NOT what truly matters anymore, so if we feel that then it stands to reason we must create new ways to celebrate Christmas and create new memories. In other words don’t look at it as if something is [wrong] because you don’t feel Christmasy….Spend time creating what the new Christmas will feel like within.. New rituals, new life, new world. It’s time we allow ourselves to let go of what was and become involved in what IS. Just a thought and stray idea 🙂 Hope it didn’t sound too preachy. If so, I apologize my friend….VK

Not preachy at all, VK… and what you say makes perfect sense!
It’s a new now, and although it could at times feel similar, it’s still new. Time to create new feelings!

Hey Prenin? 🙂 (Merry Christmas!) Sounds like we all need to be working on new memories and banishing some of the old, and guess what?….Wolfie is starving!!! How about you mozie on donw and get Christmas dinner on the go…you know…festive Elk…Yuletide Bison leg….better still you could come on the Christmas Hunt with Wolfie’s Pack! That would be something very different to help build new memories lol and since we’re all wasting away for want of a good Christmas dinner and cool company you could be the perfect man for the job!! See you by the Christmas Tree on Europa at mid-night? 😉

You said it perfectly Prenin. You said ” I am having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit…”. Why should it be something we have to do or should do? Humanity is so brainwashed we have been railroaded into these moments in time where, everybody is thinking everyone else is doing Christmas therefore I have to do it”. WHY? If the feeling is not there why force it? There is NOTHING wrong with anyone who may not wish to embrace the season’s activities. Maybe you just want to be still and appreciate your silence. We have been made to feel guilty if we don’t follow the masses and do exactly whatever the others are doing. It’s called control by guilt tripping us, being trapped in a herd mentality. We must be true to ourselves and listen to our inner voice. That gives us our strength. You Prenin, are no less for not being able to conger up the spirit of Christmas but you are a great deal more for having the conviction to accept it and not force/fake yourself to comply. This is what the world is truly asking of us. To be true to ourselves, to free ourselves of our brainwashing and start living authentic lives. It feeds our soul 🙂 Have a happy moment every moment…VK

Thanks VK – a very good point! 🙂

When my God daughter and her siblings were young I was a very large part of their lives and Christmas was a celebration of our love and friendship.

Today I am no longer needed and horribly misused for 25 years only now for them to draw me back into the family as an adopted ‘uncle’. 😦

        No wonder I am troubled… 😦

        Love and hugs!

        Prenin.

Good grief…Well, make of it what you CHOOSE and want it to be Prenin! Me personally, I am starting a whole new concept of Christmas that means something to me to replace the brainwashing I have let go of…Perhaps it is time to make an ultimate sacrifice of forgiveness and begin again. Circumstances make us do a lot of things which may not be nice or may be hurtful because of what we ourselves are going through, not because we want to. Sweep your heart clear of what was and begin again creating anew…Good luck my friend…Sending good thoughts to you…VK

It’s certainly not seasonal Christmas weather Tom…sure the Mansion hasn’t transported everyone to Australia!! I think we naturally have certain expectations of Christmas, albeit subconsciously and when it doesn’t quite fit into what we’re expecting disappointment is inevitable. But we definitely need new memories alongside our childhood happy times which most of are secretly hankering for 🙂 Hope the Christmas spirit returns in time for Christmas 🙂

Well Tom.. your site looks very festive here.. And like you the mood just hasn’t grabbed me as it should.. I really should put some sparkle or at least a bauble up on my site… At home the tree is up.. but that is it 🙂 along with a few cards.. I am pleased now you have put the tree up Tom you are feeling more festive.. and the snow is following me which way I turn.. So I know you will soon be feeling more seasonal here.. Even though it is more like a balmy Spring day outside…
Sending you my thoughts for a relaxing weekend as we gather our strength for the celebrations to come .. Love and Hugs my friend..
