Start of the Supermoon!

Hanging low in the early evening sky was the Full Moon, bright and glorious and a lot larger than usual, due to this particular Full Moon being a Supermoon. It’s probably moved position now, or we have, so it may be higher and larger… and possibly redder. We’re in for a Total Lunar Eclipse later, where the Moon will turn blood red. The eclipse isn’t due to take place for a few hours yet, and by that time I shall probably be far away in the land of nod. If something does happen to wake me, I’ll have a look out and see if I can spot it, and maybe take a photo or two on my mobile phone.

Here follows some photos I grabbed earlier… they aren’t particularly clear as the Moon was immensely bright and I haven’t got to grips with my new mobile phone’s camera capabilities yet, but they give the idea of the size of the Moon at least.

Enjoy the Moon’s energies over the next few hours: apparently we’re in for a spectacular show!

Great photos Tom. I am 5 hours behind you so it is still daylight – and better timing for us – I will be heading out soon to join friends for a moon watch

Wonderful pix TL….Yes it should be quite a show not to mention the emotional energies that are pulsing about…Hang on and enjoy the ride.I don’t think it wise to venture into the Grinds however…Who knows what lurks within and what the moon will do to them…Have a happy! VK

Thanks, VK. At one point last night I awoke bolt upright with a jolt for some reason, so the energies were most definitely swirling then!
And you’re right about the Grinds… I could hear all sorts of strange noises out there last night!

I went outside this evening, but the moon was missing in action. All I could see in the night sky over Gotham City, Tom, was a blanket of cloud cover over a massive shmear of pollution. I think that the moon flipped New York the bird.

Ah, sorry to hear that, LA. I bet New York City would look even more spectacular with a huge Moon above it…

I slept through the blood moon. Perhaps I should’t have, but never mind.
Your photos though, the moon is huge! When I saw it last night over the sea (very blessed view I have!), of course it was bigger than usual, but not like that! Hmm. Unless it was that big and I just wasn’t paying much attention (which I wouldn’t put past me, to be honest xD )

I think it’s all to do with perspective, Jennifer, and what’s around to compare to the Moon. The photo of the street with the Moon above makes the Moon appear a lot bigger, whereas in the field it’s not as large. Although that said, over the sea would be quite an impressive view of it – especially if there was a reflection as well.

I’m slightly envious of your view. I love the sea.

Very good point! Didn’t think of that. We all know how vast the sea is! Yeah, it’s very special 🙂 Distant moorland on the horizon, too!

Sounds fabulous. I have about an hours drive to the sea, so it isn’t too bad all things considered (it can take that long to get to work some mornings!)… I’m surrounded by trees so I have to pretend the sea’s just behind them… there’s a river nearby. Yes, I know it’s not the sea but beggars can’t be choosers!

I’m really annoyed with myself that I didn’t get up early/stay up very late to see the moon. I did see it rising, which was good, and it looked very big then!

Big and bright, Elaine. I didn’t see the red though. There’s always next time!

I tried to snap some photos, too, but mine didn’t turn out – hard to believe how bright that moon was!

It was a bright one, Diane. I managed to capture the shape, which was good enough for me!

I didn’t see it red either, Icewolf. Well, I did on the news…
