Not even a shimmer!

Yesterday evening, Thursday, February 27th, 2014, as strange exploding noises were emerging from the bathroom (and I wasn’t there, being here!) a Breaking News story emerged on the BBC News website.

Just after the bathroom explosion, I thought ‘that was quick!’, but then when I read the news story, I found it had nothing to do with me whatsoever. Well, it did, but not directly. I’m not that important, it seems.

Apparently, as the skies were so clear, the Aurora Borealis was visible throughout the UK. I left the creature from the black lagoon to smear and slide out of the bathroom and to go wherever it wanted to go, and I headed outside. I was, finally, going to get to see my Northern Lights.

I dashed outside.

I crooked my neck.

I looked up into the black sky.

I sighed.

Oh, it was a beautifully clear night alright. I could see hundreds of millions of stars twinkling above me – far more than I can usually see from in the Grinds – but not one shimmer of green was there. Not a haze of red. No dash of blue. No hint of peach. No flair of purple. No twinkling of – well, you get the idea.

The Northern Lights were visible if you were further north than me, and they were also visible if you were further south than me. And presumably east and west. But, being in the middle (actually the north-west, where I was (and am!)) they weren’t visible. Well, in my part of the north-west anyway. Other parts of the north-west could see them.

The image that accompanies this post has been erm… ahem… ‘borrowed’ from the BBC News website, but I’ve used it to highlight the spectacular light show that I never did see.

I’m beginning to think it’s a conspiracy.

It.

Everything.

But I’ll still have another look tonight, just in case I’m wrong…

I was awake and still missed it, Prenin. Hey ho – there’s always next time (and I’ll miss it then as well, I’m sure!)!

It’s a conspiracy! And the explosion in your bathroom lol was way too powerful to spark the auroras so close to home….Unfortunately it wasn’t powerful to light up the cloudy rain driven skies down here either. … so I saw nothing as well not even a star! !

I’m glad you agree, Icewolf… I thought I was going a little mad there for a moment! Sorry you missed the light show as well – I got to see the star display, which was spectacular, I must add, but it would’ve been even better if the sky were red… or green… I’d settle for the more common green.

You like your tech, Lady P. I have a few gadgets, but mostly use the desktop computer. And you didn’t see the lights either? Hmmm… a pattern is starting to emerge here. My Inner Sherlock is starting to twitch…

well, Sir A, it’s touch screen, and as I haven’t tried one, (My mobile ‘s a few years old , not your ‘sing ‘n dance’ type of thing, It ‘does’ texts and’ calls, basic wise…but then that’s what I want it to do…) , this Tablet, it does things I don’t want it to do, I tap (maybe I got fat fingers? ;-( ) but somehow I have to ‘tap’ countless number of times, one can get quite ‘airiated’ temper wise. it does respond to ‘talk’ but somehow it doesn’t understand my ‘rage’ voice? I need calming. methinks, techy wise, before i blow a gasket. x

Non-responsive tapping can ariate one, Lady P. I have the same problem trying to get a receipt from the pay station at the car park – it refuses to acknowledge that I’ve been tapping away. Joanna Lumley’s the voice who says ‘Please press for a receipt’ several times, before thinking I don’t want one. Very ariating indeed!!! You should try a rage tap… I may do so at the pay station next time I’m there.

I love her voice,Sir A, so I’d more than likely just stand ‘n tap away. 🙂 I’m using t’tablet now so I’m hoping against hope it’ll post OK. (Funny thing is it’s spell checking as I go ‘n I’ve missed that capability.)

Very nifty that spell checker, Lady P… as is the tablet, I’m sure (I’ve always thought tablet to be a very old fashioned way of describing that piece of tech – always reminds me of an ancient stone manuscript or something! But, we live in confusing times!) And I agree… Joanna has a very lovely and recognisable voice.

I thought it was strange to be a ‘breaking news’ story, Pen – but if they hadn’t told me about it, I’d have been none the wiser (kind of obvious really, when you think about it…)

It’s just so nice to be typing (badly) on this keyboard and getting instant response, braking news? sorry breaking news soon will be a flying touchscreen notepad name of Norbert…1st to crack the soundbarrier… (told you it had ‘talk’ capacity? well it’ll scream methinks..) 😉 xx

It’s not the same tapping on a screen to type, Lady P. I have great problems getting the correct letters on my mobile phone… although it’s the keys – not the fingers! By the way, I’m sure I just heard a scream fly passed outside…

So, you’re another who didn’t see it, Sue. I’ve only seen it on the BBC News website. I’m starting to wonder if things maybe not exactly as they seem… hmmm… it’s a conspiracy, I tell you!
