Specifics!

Quick post today, due to some reason or other that is even more boring than this post is!

I wonder if there is a term for something that captures the feeling of something that is boring in the nth degree… something boring in the ultimate extreme… something at the outer reaches of wherever boring can stretch? A specific word that conveys what it actually means, yet doesn’t.

Dull, for instance, kind of goes there. We know that if something is dull, it isn’t appealing, but it isn’t actually boring either. Boring doesn’t actually take the meaning to the levels I’m intending for it to go. Dulling, During, Bull… no. Not good enough.

Never mind. I’m sure a word will turn up one day for what I need.

A few bloggers who I follow (who most definitely ARE NOT boring – I really must be specific about that!) have recently posted search terms that brought the searchers to their blogs. I’d decided to do the same with this post, until I realised that my search terms must fall into the category of the word I’m trying to find that encompasses the ultimate boring but not quite.

However, one or two did amuse:

hayfever sneezes tickle or itch or tickles or itches or itching or tickling or itched or tickled
There’s nothing like being specific in a search, is there?

how can i have snowflakes on my computer screen
…now, in general or specifically?

lips telling a secret
Secret? What secret?

tom guess who
Who?

ad “is this working” “oh it’s working”
What? What!?

catch phrases of curiosity
I know I’m curious now…

aquatom1968; aquatom blog;
Now how did these bring you here?

illusions that make you pass out
I’ve seen that one before

волк
Bonk? (Actually, I know this doesn’t say ‘Bonk’… it’s Russian for Wolf!)

cucumber sayings
I know it’s not, but it is an odd search term at the same time

wet rain
As opposed to the dry stuff

surreal reality
You’ve found that alright!

guess who old
The readers of this post if they’ve got this far, that’s who!

scroll ends
Post ends! Phew. Sorry, but I did say it was boring.

My next post will hopefully be less so…

They can be if they aren’t boring, Andra! I thought this one was beyond boring, but it was all I could muster…

Ah Search terms are always good for a laugh. Now where exactly do you mention russian wolves?!

The terms that find me usually aren’t funny, Ellie – these were the best of the bunch!
I’ve written a couple of posts featuring wolves in the past, and I think some of the folk in Russia are looking for wolf tales. I don’t think my posts are about Russian wolves per se, but they may be… I’ll have to read them again to check! 😉

The first one was the funniest one, I found, although a bit repetitive. I’ve no idea how the searcher was directed to me… 😉

Looks like everyone agrees Tom! 🙂

    You are NOT boring!!! 🙂

Just had to save Doug’s sorry ass – he had a garbage fire in his living room and was so drunk he slept through a 90 decibel smoke alarm that got ME out of bed across the hall!!!

He’s OK, but his living room was garbage city, so it was sheer good luck it burned itself out without spreading…. 😦

    His response on being saved?

Ever since he broke his arm (he bruised it falling out of bed) his life has turned to shit.

He forgets I’ve seen him destroy his own life a piece at a time because of drink and I’m ‘way past giving him any sympathy – or the money he was hinting I could lend him…

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

And good on you for saving Doug, even if he can’t appreciate it himself.

The searches that turn up for our blogs always amaze me. I haven’t tried my own, thinking that the searches would be too boring, but yours have some really unusual terms. How do they come up with these. Tilly Bud always has some amazing ones, I know. Hers are hilarious, but then her posts usually have me in stitches. How yours got cucumbers in them I haven’t a clue. But they are interesting.

Tilly’s searches are hilarious, Maire, far better than mine! Mine are just oddly amusing in comparison!

    Boring? Your posts? Never, Tom!!
A word I use a lot is tedium. It kind of encompasses the weariness of boredom.

Thanks, Kate – I was at a loss for something, anything, to write yesterday, but wanted to write. I was torn. And bored.
Yes, I like the word tedium. It fits nicely!

Have you ever seen an illusion that has made you pass out? I can’t say I have… I do know a cucumber saying though!

You do? Besides “cool as a cucumber”? Now I must know…

If I’ve ever passed out because of anything, I don’t remember it, illusion or otherwise. A talking cucumber might do it, though.

          ‘Tis not her coldness, father,
          That chills my labouring breast;
          It’s that confounded cucumber
          I’ve ate and can’t digest.”

“To see cucumbers in a dream denotes that you will speedily fall in love. Or, if you are in love, then you will marry the object of your affection.”

Actually, Diane, I only knew the cool as a cucumber one. I searched the internet for cucumber sayings for these two. My blog was the third on the list of results…

A gripping listlessness or melancholia caused by boredom… that’s it! I actually was thinking of that!!! 😀
