I’m Tomliam Merriman. Hello World!

Paragraph One by Tomliam Merriman

Tomliam Merriman writes: Hello. I’d like to introduce myself. My name, if you haven’t already guessed, is Tomliam Merriman. It’s a name you may be seeing more of in the not so distant future… possibly and hopefully a lot more of.

Aquatom1968 writes: I’ve decided to go by a more distinct and ‘proper’ sounding nom de plume, and as noms de plume go, I think I’ve nailed it with that one!

Aquatom1968 is still my on-line identity, and of course, you all know me as Tom, and can call me such if you so prefer. You can call me anything really, I don’t mind. Much. I don’t mind much, I mean. I mean, I don’t want you to call me Much or anything. But you could, if you so wanted to, I suppose. Anyway, now that that’s sorted, on to my nom de plume.

A quick-fire question and answer session with Tomliam Merriman follows:

Why have a nom de plume? is the question I can hear you ask. Isn’t Aquatom1968 (the name of one of the greatest superheroes of all time) already a nom de plume? I hear you add. I’ll answer both questions in one go. Aquatom1968 would not be a good name to have on a book. Imagine ‘Lord of the Rings’ by Aquatom1968 compared to ‘Lord of the Rings’ by Tomliam Merriman – or even T L Merriman. Not that I would ever write a book called ‘Lord of the Rings’ for obvious reasons.

Why Tomliam Merriman? What’s that all about? Thank you person at the back there! A quick explanation here, before everyone’s eyes glaze over. Tomliam is made of my first and middle name (confidentiality prevents me from going any further) and Merriman is almost similar to my surname. It’s completely different, but almost similar in a funny kind of way.

Could you please explain why you are also using T L Merriman? Certainly! Thank you for asking, person at the side there… T L Merriman is for the serious stuff, and Tomliam for the more light-hearted and less serious stuff. I think Tomliam may be busier.

Will Tomliam be writing music, songs or musicals? What on Earth makes you ask that, person at the front? What a random question… but in response, never say never! Hell may freeze over first, but anything is possible…

Basically that’s it! One step closer to writing my book I have been toying with for the past few hundred years or so. Centuries, more like!

Another Me! to add to the forever growing aspects of me that I have lurking – or cohabiting – within this ‘little shell with funny hair’ that randomly types away at this keyboard. I’ll keep the five Me’s in this blog’s title for now – oh, and speaking of blogs, Tomliam Merriman has his own spin-off blog here. There’s nothing in it yet, but I don’t think that will always be the case! Watch that space!

Tomliam Merriman now returns control of this blog to Aquatom1968.

Aquatom1968 is now signing off for the day… Feel Good now!

Love it!!! T.L. Merriman sounds very authoristic….I know, that’s not a word but it seemed appropriate…BTW, Love the name Liam!!!!! So TL, I think your choice is sufficient for awards and highbrow dinners etc.Afterall, you will be hobnobbing now with the creme de la creme. Time to crack the writing whip and get on with it. Best of luck my friend….VK

Thanks, VK, pleased you like it!
I have a feeling it may be a little while before I’m a hobnobbing, but there’s no time like the present to get started! With the book, that is… the hobnobbing will come late!

If you’re going to pile on the personalities, I might just start calling you Sybil.

I’ve loads of them, LA. And loads of Inner Beings as well who like to be heard.
In fact, my Inner Woman, Thomasina, thought that you were trying to change her name to Sybil when we/I first read this, but then she realised that you were referring to the book of the Seventies, and the movies that were made from it. I, as in me, had never heard of this book or person Sybil before…

Now you’re even better prepared to kick butt the next time you ply Trivial Pursuit, Tom or Tomliam or Thomasina.

That’s why I say stick to Tom, it’s easier!
I’m hopeless at Trivial Pursuit though. I know the answers, kind of, but they never come to mind when I’m under pressure. Which I am when playing a game like TP. I will try to remember Sybil. However, I will, of course, answer Thomasina. I just know it!

So you’re the type that thinks up all your clever comebacks after undergoing the encounter, no matter what you’re persona?

I’m not sure I understand. I’m always me, but these ‘others’ try to get me to think their way, if that makes sense. Inner voices (but not in a spooky way – at least I hope not anyway!) Sometimes I listen to them, but usually I don’t and just write about them instead! And now I sound nuttier than an extremely nutty thing, which I may be. How would I know?

I do the writing, if that answers your question LA…

You’ll get a feel for what I do … especially Monday Morning Entertainment and Opinions in the Shorts as they serve as the bookends. Many Wednesdays are for satire (like this week) … Tuesday is usually serious … Thursday are who knows (no Thurs post this week) … BTW … I usually post around 9 pm (Eastern US), that is, the night before. For instance my Monday post goes up Sunday night, etc. … except for Saturdays, which are in the morning if I have one. Oh well … just an overview.

To be honest … that’s a routine I’ve settled into … and I have found that having a pattern/routine (that is subject to change) to be helpful.

Ye Ole Tomliam Merriman sounds fine to me, although it’s a bit harder to type than Tom… or Aquatom for that matter! How about Ole T? That sounds good and is easy to type!
Oh, I must apologise for the state of the place at the other end of the portal… I’ve not had the decorators in yet, and it’s a bit, well, bland.
