Message from the Universe: Do!

I see coincidences as reminders that I am in the right place at the right time. How else would I get to experience such random events happening at the same time, if I wasn’t meant to be there, at that precise moment, to witness them?

I wrote those words as part of a post back in April last year (the end of April, I must add, not the beginning or that would be too much of a coincidence!)

  Coincidence:
1605; “exact correspondence,” from Fr. coincidence, from coincider.
Meaning “a concurrence of events with no apparent connection” is from the 1680s.

Dictionary.com provides the above origin for the word coincidence, and, coincidentally, I have a stronger than normal ‘pull’ back to the early Seventeenth Century (you may or may not be aware!)

However, this isn’t a post about that time in history, or my quest for my links to the period either.

This post does tie into last April’s post with regards to a name, coincidentally.

The situation of me finding the name was the same. I was in work, working. I test things, and sometimes need to use test accounts to test. Last year, I came across the name Tighe that I had never heard of before, and then the name appeared everywhere to me.

Today, I came across a first name that was new to me.

A tiny bit of background information here first, so the post makes sense. I had a list of names for my work. The first name on the list was just an everyday man’s name (Let’s call him person A). His name isn’t important in general, but his position on the list is. At the bottom of the list, was someone whose first name was Murdo.

I thought to myself that it was an unusual name (and in doing so I was instantly transported back to last year with the name Tighe. I’m still sitting in the same place doing the same job, and, it appears history is kind of repeating itself) I’ve never heard of the name before, and apologies to any Murdos reading this post.

I needed to search on the computer system for another surname, and – you can tell where this is going can’t you? – the name above the one I needed was also a Murdo.

I said my usual “What a coincidence!” and carried on with my job. I then brought the details for the first person (person A) up on screen, and his middle name was Murdo; his middle name wasn’t displayed on the original list.

All in all, it’s a pretty run of the mill coincidence, really. I mean there are, obviously, lots of people who use the name Murdo, and I’ve just happened to come across the name today – we’re always learning, don’t forget!

The odd thing is why the name stood out to me.

Believe me or believe me not, I have been thinking of having a go at writing a murder mystery, either for this blog, or my other one (which I have temporarily closed down), or just writing it in general, and the letters M-U-R-D stood out to me in the name. Then the final two letters stood out a little more… D-O!

Sometimes, we have to pay attention to these signs from the Universe, however they come to us. Sometimes, they are there to give us a gentle nudge in a different direction.

I have the basic idea for my mystery in my mind. I’m debating about the characters, and I’m pretty sure of the setting. I was also thinking of writing it as a play rather than a story, and making it comical rather than sinister and serious. And with a murder mystery there are lots of little stories that need to be written for the characters as well as the main story itself. And then, there’s the twists and turns… and the final reveal!

I may just add a character by the name of Murdo too. Murdo the butler has an unusual ring to it, don’t you think?

I experience coincidences all the time.
Every day.
I shouldn’t be surprised.
But I am.
Every time.

Tess, I have an outline to the main body of the story – that was there as Murdo turned up! I need to get the outlines to the side stories now, and the red herrings, and the supporting characters need a bit of thinking about too!
We do live in an interesting world, Tess… and thanks! 😀

When I see a new name, it never fails I see it 412 times in the next weeks. I like you pulled “do” out of it. Your internal optimist is apparently driving the train.

Red, it’s very strange how it happens like that, isn’t it? Where has the name been for all of the times that we haven’t come across it yet? My Internal Optimist is very happy! 😀

See….I don’t believe in coincidences. I think it’s all part of a well-laid plan, and like you when it all comes together (even the crappy parts), I’m so surprised…like I forgot that it’s all part of a well-laid plan. So many times, I’ve had an experience that I snorted and cussed about, only to discover that I needed the lesson I learned from that event several years later. As a lady told me today…”There are no quinky-dinks.”

Yes, Barb. Everything happens for a reason, only for most of the time we don’t know what that reason is! 😀

Thank goodness. If I knew the reason, I’d probably argue about it.

Sounds like a great name for a character.

Tom, however you write your story, I will read it. Murdo is definitely telling you to DO it. You are not imagining it. I had the exact same experience a couple of months ago with the next book I’m writing. I wanted to look at the ceiling and scream “stop talking to me!!” to my characters.

      Thanks, Andra.
I’ve had ideas coming to me all day in work today, for the setting, the people, the stories. Not the best when I should have been concentrating on something quite technical!
I’ve still not decided on the format yet though… but I will! 😀

😀 I could, Kate, but his job description kind of takes away the mystery part. However, it’s a good thought for a red herring! 😀

Love your post and love coincidences. You are right, we shouldn’t feel surprised. I love the warm, tingling feeling of support and nurture. Plus that sense of fun, you know you have a playmate and that there will always be laughter. What could be better?

You are going to have a world of fun creating these characters
and fitting them into the story line, adding all the twists and turns,
solving the red herrings and catching all the inventiveness as
your imagination runs away with you 🙂 But what an adventure 🙂

Have a wondrously enjoyable time with your story Sir Aquatom 🙂

That fun, Andro, has already begun. The characters are knocking at my door, asking to be included in the story! And my head is getting filled rather quickly with ideas for the story itself! 🙂
