El Catrín from the Day of the Dead,
Had no stylish top hat on his head.
So he hurried in fright,
Into Halloween night,
To steal a black pumpkin instead!

La Catrina of Day of the Dead,
Had hair colored black, orange and red.
She went hunting to find
A rare rose of that kind,
To weave into braids on her head!

Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead is celebrated two days after Noche de Brujas. Noche de Brujas (night of the witches) is Halloween, and Día de los Muertos is the celebration on 1st and 2nd November, although the 1st November is actually Día de los Inocentes, Day of the Innocents.

The characters in these two limericks are El Catrín, him, and La Catrina, her. And very stylish they are too.

Halloween and the Day of the Dead are two totally separate celebrations, despite their similarities.
