Natural Beauty: Fossils

Fossil Inspired, anyhow.

Todayโ€™s #WORLDWATERCOLORGROUP watercolour has been inspired by the Asteroceras Obtusym, otherwise known as the Obtuse Star Ammonite, which Iโ€™m taking to be a well-known fact. According to Wikipedia, this is an extinct species of cephalopod of the Ammonite sub-class. They were carnivores, nektonic at that. These fast-moving nektonic carnivores lived around the Jurassic period, around 189-196 million years ago. And their evidence of being on Earth still exists to this day.

For those of you unaware, as I was, a nektonic animal is one that swims freely, regardless of current. A whale is a nektonic animal.

I donโ€™t think I can get โ€˜nektonicโ€™ in any more, so hereโ€™s todayโ€™s painting (done in about an hour):

As always, if you feel like sploshing a little colour around, more details can be found on Charlieโ€™s blog, Doodlewash. The link today is at the beginning of the post.

    Nektonic creatures fascinate me! ๐Ÿ™‚

There is, naturally, a living fossil that has been traced from the Triassic to the present day we call the Nautilus – You should take a look , they are pretty amazing creatures!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

They do as fossils, Isadora… I wonder if they were as cute when they roamed freely? I bet they had teeth. They always have teeth.
