Wordle: Just Life

Precise as it will ever be,
Is lifeโ€™s confusing tapestry
Veiled threats mix with harmony
As is shown countless times

Stars can sparkle brightly
Though sometimes they are not seen
When clouds come in so quickly
Like dark thoughts within our minds

Ignorant as we may seem
We try to get ourselves seen
As environmentally friendly
And being cruel to be kind

We get weighed down so heavily
Seeking lightness, drinking herb tea
Mutable like a Joshua Tree
Yet mostly failing to shine

Individual as a bumble bee
We do the same collectively
As a threatened cuttlefish out at sea
And squirt ink; or drivel; or lies

Plod on: we do regardlessly
Complaining so remarkably
Flake out when change comes urgently
Yet we continue with our lives

Precise as it will ever be,
Is lifeโ€™s confusing tapestry
Filled with folk like you and me
But on the whole weโ€™re doing fine

    “And squirt ink; or drivel: or lies” have you been reading my work recently?! I had a good laugh at that.

    Perhaps the perfection of life is not the front of the tapestry but the back where all the stitching is seen..a few mistakes rectified..a few runs of faultless stitches but when threaded together they can shine

      Yes, I think you’re right here, Jae. It’s what’s behind the scenes that builds up the perfection.

    reminded me a little of Gerard Manly Hopkins’ work – one of my favourite poets :
    The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
    It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
    It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
    Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
    Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
    And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
    And wears man’s smudge |&| shares man’s smell: the soil
    Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

    And for all this, nature is never spent;
    There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
    And though the last lights off the black West went
    Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
    Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
    World broods with warm breast |&| with ah! bright wings.
    Gerard Manley Hopkins

      Thanks, Raili. To say my writing reminds you a little of writing such as this has made my day.

    I’m with Jae. It’s what lies behind the tapestry that sets the scene, and holds it altogether.

    I love the way this gives a serious message, but with a mischievous streak popping out at intervals.

      That’s how life is at times, Col, isn’t it? I wanted this to be more fun than serious, but still reflecting everyday things.
