2014: Let’s Get This PARTY Started!

DONG! Went the twelfth bell.

FIZZLE! Went the final worn-out firework.

SIGH! Went I as I settled down into bed shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. I went to bed early on New Year’s Eve, and had my sleep disturbed by the racket outside the Mansion window.

Still, it was soon over, and I eventually drifted off to sleep.

Time is continuing as it left off I see. I kneel here, typing this on 10th January 2014. It only seems like a day since it was January 1st: LAST year!

Happy New Year, by the way! Hope you had a good one!

Yes, ten days in, and no post. I’m slacking.

And I MUST get back to commenting soon. I will. I promise.

So far this year, we seem to have had the warmest day of 2014. It’s odd, having a warm day in January. It’s back to cold again now, but the day before yesterday, there was a distinct warm breeze about. We’re having some odd weather, aren’t we? And snow is due next week. Again!

Last night, we were due a magnificent display from the Aurora Borealis, even this far south in England (I’m in the North country-wise, but somewhere in the middle island-wise), due to intense Solar activity and magnetic field fluctuations. I looked out on several occasions, and saw many a star, but not a glimmer of a shimmer. No green glow. No rare blue. No red haze. Nothing. One day, I’ll see it. One day.

Comet Ison went the way of the final worn-out firework on New Year’s Eve… it went behind the Sun, and never came out again. Swallowed whole, it was… apart from a tiny off-shoot, that is. Who knows… maybe this little spark may be the next bright thing in the night sky. Only time will tell.

So this is it.

2014.

First post of a New Year. More of a fizzle than a bang in itself, but I’m still here, waffling away.

And I’ll be back. Soon. I’m just going to raid the buffet in the library. I have no idea how long it’s been there, but I’m sure I’ll find out. I’m referring to the library, by the way, not the buffet… that’s fresh. So Wilhamena the maid says. I’ve no idea how long she’s been here either, but she tells me years.

Don’t ya just love parallel dimensions?

Happy New Year, Tom! I hope your holidays were awesome. You’re having warm weather, and we’ve just finished a round of arctic temps. Three days ago, I had to wear base layers and mittens, and today, I could’ve worn a summer dress.

I would like to include you in the pre-launch for my novel, but it will require your mailing address. If you’d like to be part of it, please message me with your mailing address. You will get a handwritten letter, wrought by my cramping hand. 🙂

Happy New Year, Andra! I’ve been watching your weather patterns on the news… quite frightening, actually – hope you’re OK! We certainly don’t have weather like we used to…

I’d love to be part of your pre-launch, and have an address that you can write to. There’s a positusonline email address that is included with the email notifcation for your comments… can I send the address there?

Happy New Year, Tom. the weather has gone crazy. Our usual cold weather has delivered two ice storms in 10 days. Thousands of people without electricity for nine days. We were some of the lucky ones. Big Bang Start to the New Year. 😀

Happy New Year, Tess. The weather over your part of the world is quite frightening! The Polar Vortex has certainly created a name for itself. We’re at the mercy of the Jet Stream here, which seems to be keeping things warm for us at the moment. A bit wet, but warm nonetheless! Hope things are more settled soon for you.

Thank you, Tom. Yep, we’re expecting a thaw and flooding. Weird weather this year. Whap. Smash. Crunch. 😀

Hopefully not too much flooding, Tess. There’s been enough of that of late!

Agreed. Just read in the paper this morning the expected flooding hasn’t happened. So far. It’s almost balmy out there and the snow’s melting. 😉

In that case, let’s hope it stays that way! We’re due for snow this week, apparently…

    Happy New Year, Tom!
May this year be an awesome one.
The weather has been wonky all over the place and well…I think it’s sort of a good news that you didn’t get the see the light show…isn’t it? Something about the effect of the solar flares etc. not being bad enough to cause that….I think I learned that in a movie…so take it with a truck load of salt..lol.

Your waffling posts are as entertaining…so don’t underestimate them 😉

Thanks, Shree. And Happy New Year to you too!
To be honest, I would have loved to have seen it. I’ve seen it in pictures, and videos, but would love to experience it in person… although, I’m a little greedy in wanting to see it in different colours, rather than the normal green!
Thanks for liking my waffles… I do enjoy waffling, so it’s good to know!

Ah yes…. TL is is in rare form I see….Hard to think we are already 10 days into January! I see now there really isn’t such a thing as time. We are instead stranded on the treadmill of now going round and round as life unfolds around us. I hope your new world new year is a good one and happiness embraces you from all sides TL. It sure seems like we are encountering the unknown. Weather is bizarre, the scandals grow in intensity and reality gets more insane by the minute. Welcome to the new year. It’s gotta end sometime TL….I keep waiting and hoping the end is near but the tunnel seems to always bend around yet another corner. I do see the light though!! All the best to you my friend,,,,,VK 🙂

Time’s only a concept, VK, I see that now, but it still seems to have a lot of control. I don’t see us as standing on a treadmill, though… I see us hanging on to it, desperately trying to keep up – and maybe we should just let go… hmmm…
Weather, scandals, insanity… we need something new, methinks. Maybe this year, hey?
      Happy New Year, VK!

    Hi Tom! 🙂

Happy New Year for 2014 my friend! 🙂

Yes, the solar flare was widely advertised as being energetic enough to make the aurora visible as far south as Manchester, but I saw no sign of it.

I too was disappointed by comet ISON, but I guess it got too close to the sun and did an Icarus… 😦

Parallel dimensions can be fun, so enjoy the food and enjoy yourself! 🙂

    God Bless my friend! 🙂

      Happy New Year, Prenin!
Ison was disappointing, I have to agree – it had so much potential.
We will get to see those lights, Prenin – I just know it – and what a magnificent sight it will be.
And the parallel dimensions around here are certainly fun. Erratic, but fun just the same!
      Have a good weekend, Prenin!

Happy 2014 Sir A, did you see StarGazing Live? eh? eh? ’twas simply marvellous and what a great idea to get everyone searching heavenwards giving heart and soul to finding new systems and heavenly bodies. (erm… stars-wise I mean) Loving your piccie of the Aurora Borealis, blimey, what must it be like to actually see/experience it yourself. I’d die happy methinks. From the Sun directly to the earth, almost sun touched. Anyway, for me it’s 11 days in and just posted , bad Penny, (always turns up though!!) 🙂 xxxx

I watched snippets of StarGazing Live, but I’ve Freeview Plussed (Plused?) it, so I’ll be able to watch it in full when I have time just not live. The sky and space are fascinating subjects though.
Post as and when you can, Pen – always a pleasure to read!
