Winter’s Back!

Today saw the first frosty morning of the winter.

Usually, things take a gradual approach, so one morning there would be a gentle covering of dew, then the next morning a subtle layer of ice, gradually getting thicker and heavier as the days pass by.

But no, not this morning.

Oh no, we may as well have been under a six foot snow drift, the frost was that severe. It took a good ten minutes to clear the top layer of set ice from the windows on the car, and then what seemed like a further hour on each window to chip away at the rest.

Obviously, it wasn’t that long, but it felt like it.

Moments before, I’d left the Mansion after turning the heating off, thinking as it was warm it wasn’t needed yet. Once outside, I realised why it was so warm. The heating was compensating for how cold it was outside.

So, the heating is on again now. And I’m ready for tomorrow morning.

We’ll probably have a heatwave.

When life is good, be prepared to disaster. This picture is disaster for me. Too sudden. Thank goodness I don’t go out when I don’t need to. Any minute now we will be in the same boat as you describe. Brrrr.

Luckily, Tess, it must have been a weather-blip, as it has gone (ever-so-slightly) warmer since then. Still cold though, I must add! And wet.

Wet is exactly what we’re having too. But it’s sort of balmy. Weird.

I could do with some winter now, Tom. Maybe I’ll find it later in the week.

Quite possibly, Andra. I’m hoping we’re now taking the more gentler gradual approach to winter once again…

Since that morning, we’ve been OK here. Cold, yes. And wet, yes – very! But no further ice. I have my de-icer to hand now though. Just in case.

I think it’s time for me to get those things ready too – and get the snow shovel out from the back of the garage, just in case!

Getting the same here across the pond TL….21 degrees tonight. Wood stove is cranking and the cats are sprawled out in luxury near by….Throw a sheet over your windshield and slam the ends in the doors and you won’t have to chip the ice off of it. One less place to tend to…VK

That’s true, VK. I’ll wait for a short while though, as things seem to have warmed up slightly. Well, not warm, exactly, but not freezing any more. For now.

The temperature was about 12 degrees (I have no idea what that is Celsius) below average on this side of the pond today, but no ice or frost. The steam heat is up in my abode, too.

I’m hoping it was just a slight blip, LA. Things aren’t as cold now. Still cold, but not as much. Although, I may just have quickly gotten used to it…

    Hi Tom! 🙂

9.4’C here as I write, but wet and feeling colder! 😦

Sounds like Winter is on its way… 😦

Cover your windscreen with a sheet and close the ends inside your doors – it’ll ruin the sheet, but keep your windscreen frost free! 🙂

    God Bless!

Even with the fire we were frozen solid, Icewolf. Now though, we’re just wet!

Aww it’s okay Tom…I feel we all have the luxury of moaning about our own weathers…because we are living in it! Other’s who don’t are just imagining …I imagine the winter in a romanticised way…you know…fire in fireplace, cozy room, good book, hot cocoa……I never bother about the slush and mush of melted snow or the layers of clothes one needs to wear to go out and all that…hehe
