To a new life

The sky was exciting that night. Reds and golds, and blacks and purples swirled and blended, yet remained completely separate from each other. The colours cast their reflections and shadows simultaneously across the vast and empty ocean. The destination was far beyond what could be seen of the horizon, but the journey had to be made. This particular night was the best time that could have been chosen, for the storm was coming. The dramatic sky and calm sea gave clear indication of this. It was a case of now or never.

Gentle waves lapped against the side of the ship, as she slowly made her way  towards the very place where the sun had set several minutes earlier.

Beyond where the eye could see, but clearly in the mind’s eye, was the land where dreams come true. The journey to a new life had begun, or perhaps, already ended.

Oh..I would like to think it’s the beginning of something new and an end to the old. Wonder what her destiny is and where her path over the oceans will lead her to.

That’s the mystery, Shree… where to exactly?

Well…I would imagine that the ship she is on will sail to a land far away (since we can’t see the land from where she is now). It will be an outwardly calm journey…but inside..she will have a tumultuous one. She knows that when she reaches her destination she will need to make a decision, a decision that she would rather not make.
I’m thinking it is to an island. A beautiful island with a tall mountain, snow peaked. On that mountain there is a monastery and that is where she is headed!

That sounds good, Shree, most definitely a new start, mixed with the angst of making the new start in the first place!

I just have to say Tom, you should carry this talent further into a book! You tease the world with these little bits of info when in fact you could take us all on a fantastic journey through the pages of a novel. Wish you would consider it…. VK

Thank you, VK! I have actually been planning on writing a book for a while, but never got around to starting it as I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to write (always handy to know when writing a book!) I know that I want it to have a Feel Good ‘vibe’ with it, and it has to most definitely be a positive, uplifting book, but I want it to be a book with a difference as well. These ‘teasers’ (I like that description by the way!) are my practicing I suppose. I do enjoy writing them, so I suppose I could expand on them and see where it leads to. Thank you for the gentle push! 😀

I want to say Tom, your “teasers” have an amazing ability to suck the reader in and it is always a bit of a let down knowing there is no more to keep reading about. You definitely have the skill to create a page turner. Now if you could do that along with a positive message you’ve got it made!!! Go for it! VK

Thanks, VK. I really don’t want to make anyone feel let down, and I occasionally revisit some of the posts and expand on them a little.
I may have a go at writing a book with short stories in, rather than one long one, obviously with a few twists and turns. I think rather than talking about it, I’d better get started, hadn’t I? Thanks for the confidence boost… much appreciated!

The blood red sunset is ominous. I wonder where the story will end? Where will it take her?

I was thinking of the rhyme ‘Red Sky at Night, Sailor’s Delight’ when I put this together, Tess, so the idea was more good vibes than anything else… although, the blood redness is quite strong, I agree! When I first wrote it, it was part of my 150 word series I wrote a while back, and I wanted to leave it open with the very questions you ask! The traveller wants a new life, and the time and the signs look good to go!
