Lunch

As the raindrops patted the ground around, the blackbird stood and waited. It was looking for a nice, juicy worm for its lunch, and knew they couldn’t resist the temptation to come out of the ground in the rain.

The blackbird caught site of a worm in the corner of its eye, and flew over to it. It grabbed the worm with its beak, and tried to pull it from the ground. The worm was strong. It didn’t want to be eaten, and had other ideas. With all its might, it went back underground, dragging the bewildered blackbird with it.

    I’ve had days like that… the bird’s day, not the worm’s. 🙂

Diane, you should always expect the unexpected. I do, and still unexpected things turn up!!!

Strong worm! I once rescued a worm, as it slithered on a hot pavement, in the morning, as commuters walked past. I simply could not leave it to die. As a kid, I had worms for pets. Yes, I know, sounds weird, but I learnt how to get a worm farm as an experiment. I also like many creepy crawlies, but I also love blackbirds. Did you know they are the first ones to sing during the Dawn Chorus, they’re followed by little Robins 🙂

I didn’t know they were the first, Alannah, but I suppose I should have done from the hymn ‘Morning has broken’… and yes, the worm was very strong. It was having none of it.

Ive often wondered what it must be like to be a Bird?… And often wished as I dream often of flying free to be able to flap your wings and lift off and fly to where ever. But then there is the Worm thing!.. Now That I wouldnt like…….. He should have come to our Allotments, after a digging session, and I would have thrown him a couple for desert.. 🙂 x

Thanks, Sue. Worms always seem to have a bad rep… I wanted to portray them in a different light in this tale! Possibly not the best light, however…

Cool worm!! I love that twist at the end of that little tale, had a slightly dark edge to it 🙂 Wonder what happened to the Blackbird…what fate awaited it in the domain of the super-strong worm!! Can’t blame wormie though if it didn’t want to be eaten lol 😉
