Snow!

I was rudely disturbed from my sleep at just before twelve thirty this morning by an almighty explosion just outside Aquatom Mansion. I shot out of bed with break-neck speed and peered through the bedroom window, expecting to see a scene of carnage and devastation. But things looked normal.

Another rolling round of thumpa-thumpa-thumpa sounded, increasing in volume, rumbling onwards overhead. It wasn’t an explosion that had awoken me, it was thunder.

It was then that I noticed everywhere covered thinly with a layer of snow. Why I hadn’t noticed this when I first looked out of the window is beyond me right now, but I was half asleep, and I suppose that is a good a reason as any.

I settled back down in bed, and drifted off to sleep, only to be rudely disturbed once again at six o’clock, but this time by my alarm. Give me thunder any day!

I looked through the window again. The snow had cleared, and rain was now falling in its place. The occasional hail shower made an appearance throughout the morning, but the snow has not yet returned. It’s also remained quite dark today so far, so it appears that the clouds above are full. Rain, sleet, hail or snow… I’m sure the clouds will let us have what they can’t hold, in whatever form, as they see fit.

I don’t mind the weather, whatever it decides to do it can do. Although I’d prefer not to be woken by it in the early hours for quite some time to come now…

Speaking of snow, I’ve done another Google image search, and found this picture which may or may not be on a Christmas card somewhere around the world…

I would much rather be wakened by thunder, than an alarm. But was odd that you heard thunder this time of year.

    Hugs, Deb

Hi Deb – it was very odd indeed! I’ve never experienced thunder with snow before, but I did see a bolt of lightning when it was snowing once, several years ago. Apparently, it lightened last night too… but I didn’t see it this time!
Thanks for popping by, Deb! 😀

    Hi Tom! 🙂

Yep: Rain, hail, sleet and snow so far with a bloody cold wind and 86% humidity – no thunder though (touch wood!)

I delivered my first eight Christmas cards today, just inside my block, and it was frakkin cold on the ground floor!!! 😦

I’m leaving the rest until the weather improves…

    God Bless!

    Prenin.

Prenin, I nipped to Sainsbury’s again today, and it was rather chilly on the car park, I can tell you. The hailstone hurt a little too! 😀 Dramatic weather!

WOW! thunder! This is something I’ve never experienced! I’m glad the snow & ice disappeared. Now rain is better than any of the above… lol. The problem is, all could turn it your temperatures change. Be safe and stay careful at all times…….

It was the first time I’ve experienced thunder with snow, Ed; even though I wasn’t actually aware of the snow at the time! I know what you mean about things changing… last year, all of the roads around here were like an ice rink!

Thanks, Jo. Things have warmed up a little today, but our snow is due to return on Friday. Snow’s OK, but when it lasts and lasts it tends to wear thin…

ooo..I’m yet to actually touch and feel snow! Thunder at any time of the year is quite normal for us here in the tropics! Love the picture; the crisp white of the snow covered trees with the magnificent blue is just how I imagine it to be 🙂

When it’s like it is in the picture, Shree, it is gorgeous to look at. When all of the cars and lorries and gritter trucks have done their thing, it’s awful, grey, and slushy. When it has freshly fallen, however, it brings with it a brightness and comforting silence. When it is snowing heavy, for all of the problems it may bring, it has it’s own hypnotic presence – well, it does to me, anyway. I hope you get the chance to touch it one day, Shree…
We don’t tend to get much thunder – well, not often, anyway.

Lovely photo you chose, it should be on a card aye? I love trees and when they are covered in snow there is something pleasing to me…perhaps from childhood. Being awakened by thunder is rather frightening, but like you I do not like that morning alarm…ewwww!!! Horrible sound to my delicate ears.

    Love the story. Rx

Indeed it should, Raven. There are some amazing images to look at on the Google thingy. Thunder at night is a scary thing, even more so when it is at a time when you wouldn’t expect it, but it is always better than an alarm!
Thank you for commenting, R! 😀

Give me thunder over a blaring alarm any day. (Especially if I can burrow further into the covers rather than getting up.)

Strange weather. Did you bring it back with you from your travels, Tom?

I suppose it may be possible, Andra, that I brought it back from somewhere, but we’ve had strange weather in these parts for quite a while now. Unless, I brought all of the strange weather back at the very beginning… now there’s a thought!
And I agree, going back to sleep after being woken by thunder is better than having to get up at goodness knows what time by the alarm! 😀

It too early for snow . . . right? Actually, we are expecting to have in sometime next week I’m told. I love seeing it out the window, it’s the driving in it that gives me fits.

    Hope your week is merry,
    Miss D

I don’t know whether it is too early any more, Miss D… times all mixed up – I still think I’m in July!
And yes, watching the snow falling from inside a house is far better than driving in it – especially in blizzard conditions! 😀

I find it so weird to have thunder in cold weather; I always associate it with hot weather.

It’s blowing a gale right now. My poor dogs have had only thirty minutes’ walk in three days.

That was the first time I’ve ever experienced it, Tilly, and it was weird! The wind is supposed to be picking up again here tomorrow, ready for… snow once again on Friday! We may have a white Christmas this year – that always adds a little bit of magic in the air!

Your poor dogs! I think thirty minutes is more exercise than I’ve had in total for three months! Ooh, me back!!! 😉

Woah. Sorry I haven’t been around for quite some time – like you, I am having problems with being behind time for reading and commenting… But I’m back now! I absolutely cannot believe how much has changed since I was gone! Background, nice snow graphic, the song… I have a lot to catch up on. Anyway. you are so very lucky to have even a sprinkling of snow – I have only have rain and wind as of yet!

Hello Emily! Nice to see you again!
The changes have only recently been made around here, and they may change again soon! We’ve had it all around here… rain, sleet, snow, hail, wind, sunshine, rainbows, and yesterday… turbulent skies! Very changeable weather (Not that dissimilar to my blogs appearance, for that matter!!!) If you want snow, I hope you get some soon… if not, I hope it keeps away! 😀
