I’ve been writing lately of travelling through, and living in, different dimensions. Well, the different dimensions part is more to the point, but I’m now writing about travelling through and living in them. I swear that I’ll end up meeting myself coming backwards one day.
Here’s a quick list of the lives I may be leading in a small selection of these parallel universes (Obviously, I say ‘may’ from the perspective of this – the real – universe as the concept of living in two dimensions at the same time is incomprehensible, but there is nothing that says it is improbable. Or something!):
The Land of the Grumps
I’m known as Bernard in this realm. I’m never happy with anything or anyone, but then again, neither is anybody else. The weather is absolutely perfect, but everyone thinks that it is too hot or too cold or too wet or too windy. Luckily in my real dimension, Bernard only exists inside my head, and he is my nagging inner voice. I wonder if Bernard’s nagging inner voice is called Tom? And I wonder if this Tom really nags, or provides encouraging and motivational thoughts as Bernard grumbles his way though his existence?
The Land of the Meta Humans
Aquatom soars through the sky and saves the day in this world. In daylight! With his real identity a closely guarded secret, Aquatom finds time to foil crime, solve puzzling cases, adapt the weather to suit everyone’s needs, and look absolutely stunning in the latest designer lycra super hero wear. And his hair always looks spectacularly stunning, even after crashing through a reinforced brick wall.
The Land of the Rock Gods
I earn a living in this world as a rock singer. I know, I can’t believe it myself, but it is true. My name here, as ridiculous as it sounds, is Effov Essence. I was the first everyday person to enter a TV talent show, and won. Effov isn’t my real name, I don’t think, as performers here all go by strange names… Elek Trik; Rat Ellenrole; Izthatve Time; and Jo Bweldun. We performed a song for charity one year which holds the record for being the most bought track of all time. Not bad for someone I’ve never heard of before…
The Land of the Computer Analysts
I can’t believe this kind of world exists… and there’s a me in it! Actually, it’s Tom the Geek’s domain, who also happens to be one of my inner aspects, my inner geek. And all along I thought my inner selves existed within me – not in their own dimensions. It’s strange the things you find out about yourself when you set fingers free across the keyboard. And Fingers is my inner typist as well. I should have known he wouldn’t be far away, the amount of back spacing and re-typing I’ve been doing.
The Land of Make Believe
I know for a fact that I’ve been to this realm on more than one occasion. I know for a fact that I’ve been in this dimension at multiple times at the same time. In fact, I think that this is the place where I actually did meet myself coming backwards. I never saw that coming when I wrote the first paragraph of this post. Maybe this paragraph was written first. Or maybe everything was just made up. Or maybe Tom the Dreamer lives here?
The Land of Perpetual Motion
Always on the go? Never have a moment to yourself? Time passing quicker than something that flashes by in the blink of an eye? You’ve been here too then, I suppose. Tom the Slowcoach lives here. He lets everything just race by and does things at his own pace. Why he doesn’t appear in my real world is a mystery to me… maybe I should invite him over!
The Land Where Everything Makes Sense
OK, I can’t say I have ever been to this dimension. Or maybe I have, and just didn’t recognise it… There is a version of me in this world. Somewhere. Hiding. Hiding very well in fact. Ah… I can see now why he is in hiding… Well, in a place where everything makes sense, no explanation is necessary, is there?
The Land of the Here and Now
And here we are back home. The real me. Illusions of grandeur. Insecurities. Insincerities. Incomprehensible ideas. Random thoughts and other everyday stuff. Really real, not as interesting, but fun all the same. It’s always nice to go and visit different places, but it always feels so good to come back home. And, I’ll say it again… I love feeling good!!!
