Multiple Lives in Multiple Lands

I’ve been writing lately of travelling through, and living in, different dimensions. Well, the different dimensions part is more to the point, but I’m now writing about travelling through and living in them. I swear that I’ll end up meeting myself coming backwards one day.

Here’s a quick list of the lives I may be leading in a small selection of these parallel universes (Obviously, I say ‘may’ from the perspective of this – the real – universe as the concept of living in two dimensions at the same time is incomprehensible, but there is nothing that says it is improbable. Or something!):

The Land of the Grumps
I’m known as Bernard in this realm. I’m never happy with anything or anyone, but then again, neither is anybody else. The weather is absolutely perfect, but everyone thinks that it is too hot or too cold or too wet or too windy. Luckily in my real dimension, Bernard only exists inside my head, and he is my nagging inner voice. I wonder if Bernard’s nagging inner voice is called Tom? And I wonder if this Tom really nags, or provides encouraging and motivational thoughts as Bernard grumbles his way though his existence?

The Land of the Meta Humans
Aquatom soars through the sky and saves the day in this world. In daylight! With his real identity a closely guarded secret, Aquatom finds time to foil crime, solve puzzling cases, adapt the weather to suit everyone’s needs, and look absolutely stunning in the latest designer lycra super hero wear. And his hair always looks spectacularly stunning, even after crashing through a reinforced brick wall.

The Land of the Rock Gods
I earn a living in this world as a rock singer. I know, I can’t believe it myself, but it is true. My name here, as ridiculous as it sounds, is Effov Essence. I was the first everyday person to enter a TV talent show, and won. Effov isn’t my real name, I don’t think, as performers here all go by strange names… Elek Trik; Rat Ellenrole; Izthatve Time; and Jo Bweldun. We performed a song for charity one year which holds the record for being the most bought track of all time. Not bad for someone I’ve never heard of before…

The Land of the Computer Analysts
I can’t believe this kind of world exists… and there’s a me in it! Actually, it’s Tom the Geek’s domain, who also happens to be one of my inner aspects, my inner geek. And all along I thought my inner selves existed within me – not in their own dimensions. It’s strange the things you find out about yourself when you set fingers free across the keyboard. And Fingers is my inner typist as well. I should have known he wouldn’t be far away, the amount of back spacing and re-typing I’ve been doing.

The Land of Make Believe
I know for a fact that I’ve been to this realm on more than one occasion. I know for a fact that I’ve been in this dimension at multiple times at the same time. In fact, I think that this is the place where I actually did meet myself coming backwards. I never saw that coming when I wrote the first paragraph of this post. Maybe this paragraph was written first. Or maybe everything was just made up. Or maybe Tom the Dreamer lives here?

The Land of Perpetual Motion
Always on the go? Never have a moment to yourself? Time passing quicker than something that flashes by in the blink of an eye? You’ve been here too then, I suppose. Tom the Slowcoach lives here. He lets everything just race by and does things at his own pace. Why he doesn’t appear in my real world is a mystery to me… maybe I should invite him over!

The Land Where Everything Makes Sense
OK, I can’t say I have ever been to this dimension. Or maybe I have, and just didn’t recognise it… There is a version of me in this world. Somewhere. Hiding. Hiding very well in fact. Ah… I can see now why he is in hiding… Well, in a place where everything makes sense, no explanation is necessary, is there?

The Land of the Here and Now
And here we are back home. The real me. Illusions of grandeur. Insecurities. Insincerities. Incomprehensible ideas. Random thoughts and other everyday stuff. Really real, not as interesting, but fun all the same. It’s always nice to go and visit different places, but it always feels so good to come back home. And, I’ll say it again… I love feeling good!!!

Thank you! That list, Prenin, doesn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg considering the number of possibilities; and each possible reality has it’s own full lifetime.. Sounds quite busy really, doesn’t it?

I like this post. As a informal student of psychology, the concept of multiple selves, or at least multiple sub-personalities, has always rather fascinated me. I first really got interested in them when I read Hermann Hesse’s Steppenwolf.

I know perhaps you are speaking of something else, but maybe not – we all have facets of our selves we reveal in different settings, depending on our comfort level with the audience.

I got bored one day and started studying up on dissociative identity disorder (aka Multiple Personality Disorder). There’s always distinct personalities coming forward to deal with different ‘tasks’ or events as a defensive compensation against new perceived or real trauma. But I’ve always wondered where the other personalities go when any given personality takes center stage. Maybe they go to sleep in the subconscious, maybe they are waiting offstage somewhere for their next cue to come back on. Or after reading this, maybe they astral project into different dimensions or simply different places in this dimension.

I have wished I could astral project. What fun it would be to be able to go places we can’t easily go and have experiences we might otherwise not be able to go with.

Oh, and I was a superhero, well, at least inasmuch as I did foil crime and solve puzzling cases. I used to work in a forensics DNA lab and my test results put some bad guys away and released some wrongly convicted. I didn’t have a designer lycra suit, but I looked really good in a cotton lab coat. Go me!

I’d love to live in the land where everything makes sense.

Interestingly enough, that reminds me of what a quote from Catcher in the Rye (which, I just reposted on my blog today…so I have it really handy)

“Once you get past all the Mr. Vinsons, you’re going to start getting closer and closer – that is, if you want to, and if you look for it and wait for it – to the kind of information that will be very, very dear to your heart. Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them – if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry.”

Have a great weekend, whatever dimension you are in. As for me, I’ll be at a writers’ conference and I can’t wait!

      Thank you Casey 🙂
I saw an interview with a lady once who has many personalities, and she said that her ‘inactive’ personalities were still with her, making way for the active one to come forth. They were aware of everything that the others were doing; and the lady was aware of the other personalities too.

In my case, I have names for my inner beings, who are always telling me to act in a certain way, but – most of the time anyway – I’m in charge. (Although my inner nagging voice Bernard thinks otherwise. I’ve currently sent Bernard away on an impossible mission so all’s quiet where he’s concerned!)

Astral projection interests me too. I try every now and then. One day, I’ll do it!

It’s good to know that there are some super people out there!

And I enjoyed that quote you have added – everyone has something to offer!

I hope you enjoy your conference!

Hi Tom. Im definitely in the Land of Make Believe and travel in a time warp most of the time…. Wishing that I had more TIME in which I could split myself into Parallel lives so that one half could go to work and do the house-work etc while the other half went to the Land of Computer Analyst.. But then I would want another part of me to go to the Land of perpetual motion then I could split me into Multiple Lives and live in the land where everything made sense and Maybe, just maybe I could settle in the here and now…
A very enjoyable post Tom… which I loved visiting… I work in the land of Grumps but I try to spread a little music so maybe that’s the Land of Rock Gods I visit..:-) For I work with Learning Difficulties and the mentally challenged which can leave me mentally exhausted some days… speaking of which I had better get my skates on as Im off there at 3pm..

I have a problem recognising people when I see them in places where I don’t normally see them…
And I agree, I’d love to live there too – the scenery and the views are simply breathtaking!

Sometimes I think I’ve visited each one in turn Sir Aquatom, In fact I’m now in the one where I keep hitting the F11 button and the browser and screen keeps changing… My keyboard’s malfunctioning… probably another dimension visited by my errant fingers which keep insisting on trying to hit the keys at the same time… (and I just did it again, what the F… 11 button did I do that for? ) . I think the keyboard changed it’s position and my dyslexic fingers aren’t aware yet… don’t ask what my brains doing…. It’s probably visiting the Land of Make believe. At least I think that’s what it said. Well, I shall just have to make do…and go watch the TV …. Strictly, then Merlin, then Casualty…. don’t need a brain at all methinks.. . It’s BBC1 all the way. (the Land of Unreality?) 😀 xPenx

    Hi Tom! 🙂

Thanks for the comment and visit! 🙂

I think I upset a Chinese person – they have this curse: “May You Live in Interesting Times” and God knows it applies!!! 😦

If I don’t get satisfaction Monday I’ll issue a formal complaint – Two months of cock-ups and a desperate effort to fix thier computer mistakes by starving me of medication so they can shift the date of the prescription is NOT funny and not delivering my medication is beyond a joke… 😦

Oh well: Debbie has been helping me and when Linda catches up with her email she’ll hit the roof!!!

Nice to know so many good people…

    God Bless my friend!

On the plus side the withrawal has gone well!

I slept better this morning despite being awakened at 1.25am by teenagers looking for drugs (Gary the dealer lived in the opposite block and was jailed last year) and then about 2pm I was awakened by Jehova’s Witnesses, so I told them I’d already read the bible…

Hope you have a great week Tom – Monday is going to be ‘interesting’…

        God Bless!

Great post! As one commenter mentioned, we do have different facets of ourselves and more that we discover everyday. They are all individual and yet can only exist collectively – as us, you..me..

There are different dimensions out there Tom..and we can exist in them, though from what I have heard we don’t really look like how we look on this dimension..would love to experience it too, but one needs to be very grounded before attempting to. Land of Make believe sounds fun! I wonder if there’s a Land of being slothful..I’m sure there is..my inner sloth keeps telling me about the fun times it has just lazing about! 😉

My inner beings are always trying to take control of me one way or another, so I acknowledge them by writing about them! They like the limelight, I think!

I think I know of the dimensions you are writing about, Shree, and yes, we do need to be really prepared to go there; like you, I wouldn’t mind giving it a go sometime.

There most certainly is a Land of Being Slothful, and it sounds… it… soundzzzzz…
