The Unicorn Challenge: The Portal

Callum finally completed trimming one side of the square arch on the main path in the gardens of Yelby Manor. He wished he’d started on the opposite side when he finished, after realising it was the trickier side of the two… then, he had to do the top.

He decided to take a break, and sat on the ground with his back against a nearby tree.

He watched a small black cat meander along the path, from side to side, investigating her surroundings.

The cat walked through the arch and vanished in a flash of light.

An odd mist swirled out of nowhere.

A second later, Callum watched as a lady dressed in a long black gown walked back out through the clearing mist. She looked in his direction.

“You there!” She said, with a determined tone to her voice. “Why are you resting? His Lordship will be expecting to ride shortly. His horse needs tending.”

Callum opened his mouth to speak when the lady appeared to pinch hold of something with her right hand, slightly higher than her waist. “There’s no point complaining, boy. I shouldn’t have to come out here looking for you. Come along. Back to the stables with you.”

The lady quickly turned and walked back through the arch, seemingly struggling to pull something with her. She vanished in another flash of light and swirl of mist.

The black cat then returned, walking back the way she came.

Enough’s enough, thought Callum, leaving the job unfinished.

Seems Callum also decided to have a little nip from his flask too. 😦

There’s a good possibility that may be the case, Ladysighs.

I think this is a safe, fixed portal, Icewolf. Not like some of the unsafe ones where one walks through and then finds themselves floating around an asteroid belt somewhere!

That’s where I’ve been the last few days! The Asteroid belt of 10,000 pic’s again, floating around trying to track down the vast starry array of duplicates in the pic portal, and the vague inexplicable world of which ones should move to the cloud drive…which ones to the laptop and/or onto the external drive…and which ones to keep on the phone os they’re just waaaaaay too cool to move off! 😎 A huge cosmic headache that makes your nice safe fixed portal look like a cosy snoozy Sunday afternoon in the cosmic void!

Oh no, not the pic portal! 😳
I’ve been stuck in there many times.

            It’s a nightmare! I don’t think it has an exit point! 😃

    Fun story, Tom.
D’you think Callum might have a loose connection in his hedge trimmer?

Quite possibly. If he’d carried on, he may have picked up Radio Four.

Don’t think I’d have hung around either!
That’s just the kind of self-entitled ghost that would haunt a monor house!
I can imagine her dragging the poor stable boy along by the ear.
    Good story, Tom.
