The Raconteuse and The Supplier returned to the bar area, having found Ford’s sprocket kit and a spare extension lead in one of the offices along the dark corridor near to the manager’s office; it was the extension they were after, but the kit was an added surprise.
Nancy, the DJ, was now in full swing, and Mimi and the Tall, Thin Man (and the Sophomore) were trying to describe and explain the original version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight, to Tom, who was adamant there was only one version.
The crowd were dancing wherever they could, and the Gatekeeper came to Chris and Ford’s assistance to get them through to the stage with the replacement electrical equipment… Denise and Jenne had finally managed to disconnect the microphone cable.
“The crowd is loving this,” Denise said, looking out over the darkened room, illuminated by the flashing multicoloured lights from the house lighting system, that Nancy managed to get working properly.
The Lion song came to an end, but just as Nancy was about to encourage the patrons to remain on their feet, everything stopped… the room fell silent and dark, the only light coming from the tall fridges behind the bar and the red security lighting by the entrance.
Another Tom and Mimi burst through the double swing doors from the kitchen, firstly confused as to where the party music was coming from, and then when they saw their doppelgangers chatting with the Tall, Thin Man at the other end of the bar, all bathed in the icy-blue light.
