MN585-V The Ostrich Head Nebula – the ‘beak’ is made entirely of Stellar Rain; shards of light fragments refracted from the cataclysmic explosion following a collision of stars when two galaxies merged together over a millennia ago. The vortex in the centre, or the ‘eye’, is a swirling mass of stars gathering around a central black hole. A third galaxy makes up the ‘neck’ – this galaxy will be the next to merge, creating what will become a Megagalaxy. Dust clouds surround the nebula, which appear blue most of the time, but there are occasions when they glow crimson, giving the nebula the alternative name of The Angry Ostrich. This large, but extremely difficult to see nebula is situated far beyond the Draco Constellation… but it is easy to visit once you know the way…
I’m sure you have accommodations saved for your visits there TL…. Take some photos next trip! VK
