One Minute Ramble: Why Bother?

I wanted to write
Something
To smash the gloom
Something
To clear the fright
Anything
To erase the doom
And bring in some light

And a voice said to me, why bother?

Why bother?

I thought.

Why bother?

Why bother? Because I’ve had enough about this atrocity and that war. This doom and that gloom. This blah and that blah blah.

Here a blah. There a blah. Everywhere a blah blah. Bah!

Why bother? Because I want to.

There’s far more good out there to concentrate on anyway.

Why bother? Because I can.

(Of a fashion. In a roundabout way.)

Yeah, I know what you mean, Tom. It’s been a tough week. But, hey, we have to keep bothering.

I understand the feeling. I’d like to sound erudite and wise here, but really you know. I can see it in your writing. Bothering is exactly what we need to do.

The other option, Rebecca, is giving up… and there’s not much point in doing that, is there?

We are already breaking the gloom…we are already bothering…people of the world are uniting, standing together as one people in solidarity…death, destruction, fanaticism, will always be amongst us, always will there be wars and murders so on and so forth….but they will never truly override the spirit of humanity which even as it fears stands shoulder to shoulder both with its fears and its determination never to be beaten! Never silenced! Never beaten no matter what the adversity and the darkness that surrounds us!…Je suis Charlie.

Thank you, Tom! It’s the ordinary people doing the small acts of “bothering” that make the biggest difference in the end.
