Whatever has happened in the past is not important. Whatever is to happen in the future is just a dream, if people think they know what they want; or nothing, if they don’t know. The past and the future by themselves are not important. What we have done in the past can shape our future, but we can learn from our past to have a better future.
If we constantly lived with the memories of days gone by, we are not open to change, and not open to developing ourselves further and growing.
If we constantly dream about how things are going to be in the future, especially after A has happened, or B has done this or that, then we are missing our life right now. The everyday events that have an impact on us today, will have a major impact on our future. That future may be in the next ten minutes, ten months, or ten years.
For example, dreaming of being with a perfect partner, having expectations of how this partner will look, and dress, and act, may mean that we are missing that person who is always in front of us in the queue, or the one on the bus, or the one who we work with. Our dream of meeting this fantasy person someday in the future is setting the wheels in motion for our future to turn out one particular way. Living now, with everything that we experience, and everyone who we meet, is pointing those wheels in a slightly different direction.
When we make a mistake, we can dwell on it, and keep ourselves in the past. Regretting what we have done, belittling ourselves, and constantly reminding ourselves of our failure aren’t sending out the ‘correct’ signals to the universe. Well, unless we like feeling bad about ourselves, that is. What we think about we bring about, so if we constantly see ourselves in a bad light, we are going to see other things that will tell us just how bad we are. Not very good for a good future either. But, by learning from our mistakes, and using them to ensure we try not to do them again, we have sent out the signal to the universe that we want better, we want change, and we are willing to learn.
I’ve made some great bloopers of mistakes in the past. Some whopping great big ones that could, if I let them, anchor me to the spot, and not allow me to move forward. I can’t deny that I made the mistakes, I’m only human after all. Sometimes, I make the mistake again and again (which can get quite frustrating) but I am determined to learn from the mistakes. Sometimes, I make a similar mistake but in a different way. I’m still learning.
I want to do things better, I want to be better, and I know I can do things better.
I’ve decided that the mistakes I made in my past will not hold me back. The universe is well aware of this, and I am now seeing changes in the areas where I made the mistakes. Sometimes, the change is how I do what I’m doing… other times the change is with the ‘thing’ that was causing me the problem – either way, I am seeing changes.
My decision to be better had influenced my future.
Now, here’s the biggie. If I can improve my future by learning from my mistakes, imagine how great my future will be if I improve in the areas that I enjoy and am really good at. Imagining my great future is just a dream. Making one change to improve one area of my life has had an impact on my future. A positive impact. My great future has become a reality.
I must admit that I quite enjoy living in a positive way… it certainly helps me to feel good, and I love feeling good.
