I watched a fascinating documentary yesterday on the life of waves.
Being Piscean, I love anything to do with water. I don’t actually know whether that has anything to do with being Piscean, if the truth be told, but as a water sign I believe it does. I was drawn to the programme, even though I had discovered it completely by accident. Or by coincidence, whichever way you want to look at things.
I thought I understood water.
Now, I understand it in a slightly different way. I actually see the world in a different way too. And, I see reality differently as well. I’ve always had a slightly different perspective on reality anyway, but now it has moved up a notch. So, what did I discover about water that was so life changing?
Aquafact One:
Waves are not water.
OK, the waves that we see crashing up against the coastline on a rocky beach somewhere, or those that gently lap ashore on a golden sandy beach on a hot summer’s day, may appear to be water. The water is lapping the beach, and creating rock pools in the rocks, but the wave itself is pure energy in motion. The energy is travelling through the water as a wave, as a means of getting from it’s birth to it’s death. Energy is always there, it can never be created or destroyed, it just moves on. And it moves through the water as a wave.
Aquafact Two:
Waves live a life.
They are born, either by the wind, or by something entering the water, creating a ripple. The ripple spreads outwards, and grows and grows, and the further out we see the new wave, the larger it is. Once the wave has reached the sandy beach, or wherever it is going, it’s life ends. The energy passes on into the sand, or the wind, but the wave has lived it’s life. It has journeyed from A to B, for however long it has taken. It has carried some passengers, built strength and speed, and lived it’s life in full.
Aquafact Three:
The noises we hear from water are not made by water.
When we are listening to the drip of a droplet of water, a babbling brook, a waterfall, or the waves crashing ashore, we are actually hearing the creation of a tiny bubble. This bubble within the water makes a musical tone, different sized droplets make different sized bubbles, and different sizes bubbles make different sounds.. The waterfall creates thousands upon thousands of these bubbles, as does the water as it breaks onto the beach, as does the brook as it babbles by. All of these bubbles combine together to create the hypnotic sounds we hear from the water.
Aquafact Four:
Waves travel faster than the water.
As the wave is travelling through the water, the water is churned around in a slow circular motion, almost up and down in fact. The surface of the water is moving along in the same direction as the wave, but not at the same speed as the wave.
Aquafact Five:
Waves have no bearing on the tide.
The waves are travelling towards the shore even though the tide may be moving in the opposite direction. Just thinking about this shows the remarkable balance of nature and two opposite forces working with (or against?) each other.
So, what does it all mean?
The energy that is travelling through the water creating the wave is the same energy that provides life to everything. The same energy that helps us to move forward through our lives. The same energy that we can feel when we are outside in a terrific rain shower. The same energy that we can feel when we feel refreshed by the wind. The same energy that allows us to watch a shadow move along a wall. The same energy that brings change into our lives. The same energy that keeps us awake at night when we are anxious. The same energy that helps us to feel good when we want to.
Everything in existence has this energy running through it, because everything changes. Some things change a lot quicker than others, but over time everything changes – it gets older.
The energy that creates the wave is the energy that creates life.
I always knew that everything was connected. Thanks to the life of waves, I can see that connection a lot clearer today.
