Another flying dream, another flying person

Sea at nightAfter my very lazy day yesterday, it wasn’t late when I went to bed last night. For some strange reason, I was tired. I think that I went to sleep straight away – I’m usually thinking for a short while before I drift off, but last night I get the feeling I was asleep before my head touched my pillow. I slept soundly until 4 o’clock. I got up, and looked out of the window – I don’t remember seeing anything – and then went back to bed, and drifted off to sleep again.

It is in these second sleeps that I tend to have my best and most vivid dreams. This morning was no exception to that rule, but the dream was a little mixed up.

I was in a town by the sea. I could see the sea at the end of the road. I have a feeling that I have been to this town in my dreams before, but in the previous dream I was down by the shore. In this latest dream I was more in the town itself.

I wanted to get to to the shore, but the main road was very busy. I was on foot, but thought I knew a quicker way to get to the seafront by using the side streets. These side streets ran at a right-angle to the main road, and there were buildings on either side of each of these roads. Only they weren’t ‘roads’ – they were like bridges. This part of the town was actually built over the sea, and between and below each of these roads (that ran parallel to each other) the sea could be seen. For some reason, I had to get to the shore, and rather than heading back to the main road, I decided to jump between the bridges. I do things like that in dreams.

No matter how wide the gap, I always managed to reach the next one, and eventually I arrived at the shore – or where the shore should have been. The tide was in, which was obvious when thinking that the sea could be seen between the roads, but I didn’t think of that when I was leaping from road to road.

As I was at the sea front, there were some people there who I thought I knew. Very recognisable faces, and very friendly people. There were two seagulls in the road – one was jumping about, and the other was walking on the ground. These seagulls loved human interaction, and wanted someone to hold out their arms so they could fly to us. I held out my hand, and the one that was walking flew onto my forearm – and I’m sure I could see it smiling. Someone had to pick up the other one, as this bird was blind and couldn’t fly to anyone in particular. The familiar people knew this and looked after these two birds, and I suppose this is why they loved human interaction. One of the people beckoned me and a few others to her front door so she could take our group photograph  (including the seagulls!) and we all obliged. I remember the seagull being very heavy – far heavier than how you would imagine a seagull to be. To make the seagulls leave us, we had to wave our arms up quickly, and they flew off – but they never go far.

By now, it was getting dark, and I remembered that I needed to get something from a shop before it closed. I headed back into the town – I’d decided to walk along the main road this time. For some reason, the street was extremely busy. Traffic jams on the roads, pedestrians everywhere, and basically everyone was getting in everyone else’s way. I needed to get to this shop quite quickly, and couldn’t get through the crowd. I remembered that I could jump, and so I did. Up above the crowd I leapt, and I came down in between other people (luckily I didn’t land on anyone!) The people around didn’t seem to notice – but they were all too busy trying to get to wherever they were going. After a few more times of jumping through the crowd, I arrived at my shop, and bought whatever it was that I needed. No idea what that was now, but I remember handing over the correct money to the cashier, who insisted that I had the change she was giving me in return.

The next thing I remember, I was outside the shop, in the middle of the crowd again. It was really dark now, and ahead of me I saw someone in a tracksuit leap up to a second floor window ledge. He leapt up again to the next floor, and he was watching me watch him. He wanted me to join him. I jumped up, straight to the ledge that he was on. He said to me “You can fly too, then?” and I nodded. He said, “Handy” and then he flew away into the darkness.

Like the people earlier, he was very familiar and friendly. It would appear that not everyone can fly in this dimension I go to, and they either don’t notice anyone who does, or they aren’t interested. My mysterious new friend wanted me to see him. He made sure that he stood out from the crowd so I noticed him, but then he vanished without saying who he was. I have a feeling that I’ll be seeing him again sometime, when I’m back in this land of my dreams.

I woke up again just after he flew away. I wanted to know more, but needed to get up and get ready for work. I scribbled some of the details down on a piece of paper this morning before I forgot them, but quite a lot of the dream has stayed with me all day.

A blind seagull… streets built on bridges… the sea… the stranger… the change… the hustle and bustle… and the flying. Quite clear memories of a mixed up kind of dream. In a good way. After all, I do like random. I do like my dreams!

    It’s just not fair! 😉
I go to bed, sleep and the alarm wakes me at 7am, nothing exciting ever happens to me 😦 I guess it must be this superhero thing you have, I’m not a superhero, therefore I don’t get good dreams but I love reading about yours. I treat them as surrogate dreams of my own 😀

I’m pleased you like reading about my dreams – I like writing about them! I think I remember my dreams just because they are so random…

What an intriguing dream. Any thoughts on what it might be telling you?

Very intriguing, Corisel… although I’m still trying to work out it’s meaning. Standing out from the crowd seems to be the main theme, but does it refer to me or someone else… and do I interpret it at face value or the opposite? Once I make sense of my dreams, I’ll write all about it! Until then, I’ll write about the dreams themselves!

Sounds like a cool dream. Ever since I started writing my novel, my dreams have stopped, or rather, I don’t remember most of them. Not sure why.
Anyway, I do hope you’ll meet your flying friend again 🙂

Maybe it’s because your mind is focussed on your novel, Alannah – mine’s all over the place! Just a thought, though…

I’d like to meet him again too. I like a bit of mystery, but I also like to know a bit more too! I have recurring dreams, so he may appear again…

I’ve only had the one lucid dream and it frightened me a little. I’d love to have another though…

Wow, I love reading about your dreams! The one about the tiny bull seemed more like it was your subconcious talking to you, but this one…wow…this one seems like you were really dreaming about a different dimension, a different world where visitors to it, could fly!! Wouldn’t it be freakingly awesome if you met someone that looked like the other guy that could fly and then find out he had the same sort of dream?? Maybe not exactly like yours, but in his dream he would have met you on the ledge of that building!!

Shree, that would be awesome. And freaky! Although, if I have dreamt of someone who I know, and then saw them the next day, I sometimes wonder if they’d had the same dream. I’d never ask though…
