‘I told you this was a good idea, my scrumptious pomegranate!’ Ognar Rance plunged his small wooden fork into the crisp batter surrounding a succulent piece of cod that topped a tray of steaming hot chips and peas.
‘You did indeed, my darling pineapple…’ Myrtle smiled dreamily as she chewed on the corner of her pillow.
‘Are you dreaming again?’ Ognar chuckled as he climbed out of bed. ‘We’ll be by the seaside in no time!’
‘I know. And it was so kind of Noir D’Orreur to offer to drive us there as well.’ Myrtle straightened her pillow, and elegantly slipped out of her side of the bed. ‘Unkton-by-Sea awaits, so we’d best get ready quickly.’
The journey took two hours due to roadworks on the Yelby Bypass, for which Noir was very apologetic and the Rances insisted she thought nothing of it.
They were dropped off outside the Harbour Hotel, checked in quickly and, after unpacking, dashed out again to the harbour wall. Myrtle clasped her hands together across her chest as she saw the oasis ahead of her.
‘So, my little cuckoo,’ Ognar smiled, ‘the usual?’
‘Of course!’ Myrtle sat herself down on ‘their’ bench, looking out to sea, as Ognar walked over to their favourite food van in all the world. He soon returned with two polystyrene cartons.
‘He remembered our anniversary,’ Ognar smiled, handing Myrtle a fork, ‘and… on the house!’
‘Oh, Ognar,’ Myrtle sighed, ‘just perfect! Happy anniversary. And what a perfect start!’

Posted for The Unicorn Challenge... a magical challenge hosted by Jenne Gray and C E Ayr. It's been a few weeks since I last participated in this challenge, so decided a little trip down memory lane was in order. And the Rances made me do it!
