Evangelica May Leafsedge get back down these stairs immediately! The clock tower shook after the ferocity in which the door had slammed shut. Evangelica May… it was pointless. Obviously, it was all the boy’s fault. ‘He’s just a charming rogue’, Doctor Wood said, ‘one with a chiselled jawline and the deepest blue eyes, but a rogue all the same.’
I always try to see the best. When he came calling for Annie, he looked decent enough. Black hair slicked back with a broad smile and shoulders to match, almost a perfect gentleman. It was clear to me, though, exactly what he was after.
Annie fell for him hook, line and sinker. Besotted, she was. Positively floating with her head in the clouds, which made things easier for him. No hypnotism needed on his part – he just used plain, old-fashioned chemistry.
I knew he’d done it as soon as I saw Annie after their walk by the canal that night. Her cheeks were flushed when she came home, but her expression weary, her complexion pale, and her reflection faded as she walked passed the entrance mirror.
The bruise on her neck almost hidden by her collar, she giggled as she floated by, not realising she still had blood stains on her blouse.
He hasn’t been by since, which is odd. Vampires usually stick together, once they’ve sired. Especially with their first. I wonder what Annie did that night to keep him away?
Evangelica May Leafsedge… ah, never mind. She’ll learn.
