The Finished Product (well, kinda)

This week, I’ve written a song about writing a song:

It began with a sigh
As I struggled to write
The beginning to this very piece
It began with a sigh
As I asked why, oh why
Would I choose to do something like this
It began with a sigh
As I typed and I cried
These words just won’t flow together
It began with a sigh
As I looked to the sky
And thought just do it!
It’s now or never

As the words flow and creation grows
And the letters link together
It’s now or never
Now or never
Now or never
As the page fills imagination thrills
It starts to come together
Yes, together

I began with a sigh
As I struggled to write
Anything to fill this space
I began with a sigh
As I said my oh my
It’s only a song for goodness sake
I began with a sigh
As I typed and I cried
Will things ever come together
I began with a sigh
As I looked to the sky
And thought well, it’s now or never

As the words flow and creation grows
And the letters link together
It’s now or never
Now or never
Now or never
As the page fills imagination thrills
It starts to come together
Yes, together

It was the sigh that started the words to evolve
To appear from the ether’s edge
To fill the page
Of a journey’s tale
From the beginning to the end
And without the sigh
The tale’s a lie
As without it it wouldn’t exist
But because of the sigh
This is why
These words now exist forever

As the words flow and creation grows
And the letters link together
It’s now or never
Now or never
Now or never
As the page fills imagination thrills
It starts to come together
Yes, together

As the words flow and creation grows
And the letters link together
It’s now or never
The page filled and imagination thrilled
As in the end
Everything
Came together

Whether Katherine Jenkins, or Susan Boyle and Elaine Paige, or One Direction, or that opera busker I saw the other week will actually sing this song is another thing entirely. Actually, seeing it put to music first would be a bonus.

Ah, well.

I don’t think I’ll be writing another song for quite some time to come… but this was an experience, all the same.

Now all you need is the music! 🙂

The best collaborations in music were between a lyricist and a musician! 🙂

God Bless and well done! 🙂

    Prenin.

To my mind, these words would need a melody of the stature of the Johan Sebastian Bach one used by Sting in ‘You only cross my mind in winter’. Okay, get Katherine Jenkins interested, and I’ll write it for you! 🙂

Catchy lyrics, Tom I think they could use some Frank Sinatra-style sampling “do be do be do”s. If you do (be — couldn’t resist) borrow them, make sure you credit him. That way you’re not courting a lawsuit like Robin Thicke or encouraging Frank’s ghost to beat you with a bat.

I think 1D would be thrilled to sing this song! It would no doubt go straight to no 1 in US charts and the girls would go crazy for 1D…I mean the song 😆

They’ve asked me to change the words and then they’d consider singing it, Icewolf.
They didn’t say which words though.

Between you and me, I don’t think it was actually 1D I was speaking to… I can’t see the real 1D dismissing me in such a manner…
