One Minute Random Ramble: Seven of Sorts

planets-625x450142857

There’s more to this number than meets the eye.  999999 divided by 7 equals 142857. Other numbers divided by seven have 142857 recurring in their results somewhere., for example 1642 divided by 7 equals 234.57142857142857142857142857142857….

142857 + 142857 = 285714
285714 + 142857 = 428571
428571 + 142857 = 571428 – See what’s happening here? The results are always the same digits.

Today is the 16th May. 16/7 = 2.2857142857142857142857142857142857…

142857 indicates a seventh.

1+6=7 This really is just a coincidence, but hey, it fits in nicely!

1+6+4+2=13; 7 is the mid-point number; 13th is the date I was born; 13th is the date this blog was started.

There are seven colours in the rainbow: Red; Orange; Yellow; Green; Blue; Indigo; Violet. These colours were identified by Isaac Newton, who was born in 1642.

There are seven stellar objects visible to the naked eye from Earth… The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. And speaking of Saturn, Galileo inadvertently discovered Saturn’s rings in July 1610 (July = the seventh month). Astronomers weren’t particularly interested in Saturn until 1642, which was also the year that Galileo died.

Completely random post today, not related to any one thing in particular. Just another recurring number that I have come across. Is seven a magic number?

May 16th Visits

17/05/11 00:14 – And just a little late amendment… Total number of my visitors for May 16th had to be 77. There was no other way that it would have been anything else…

Numbers can be almost mystical and seem magical. I work with numbers, trying to balance them, but sometimes they fall off the page. Silly numbers!! 🙂 Love anything to do with the conjouring of figures and finding certain ones which appear again and again, totally random one thinks, but how can they be when they keep appearing? … I will now take seven seconds to type this and bow out for today!! xPenx

Hi Pen, the numbers that appear here, there and everywhere, the ones that stand out are odd, otherwise they are just numbers. That six digit number that means ‘seventh’ really stood out the other day. There has to be a reason as to why we notice them more than others, I’ll leave this little quest for a while though…

I’m probably miles wrong but I think the number 7 is a recurring number in nature, therefore it is quite natural to see the number 7 recur in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways.
    Interesting post for all that.

I don’t think you’re wrong, Trevor, but I think all of the numbers reoccur at some point in nature… This number (and 7!) stood out more than numbers usually do, otherwise I wouldn’t really have noticed it… them… I think the more I look into them, the more interesting they become.

I think what you call a coincidence may be an important connection to 1642!!

Quite possibly, Emily. And given the fact that you have mentioned this in your comment, which is the seventh one to this post, the connection is highlighted just a little more…!

I’m sorry it messed your head around a bit, it had a similar effect with mine.
